I'll explain it to you. If Georgia had beaten Alabama, Texas would have been 4th and FSU would have been shut out.

Michigan got Georgia's spot...

Texas took FSU's.

Sure there is; just like in golf there's a big difference between 79 and 80.

False. Texas should thank Alabama. If Alabama hadn’t beaten Georgia, Texas would have been left out.

If Georgia won the SEC Championship Game, the committee would have ranked:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. Florida St
5. Texas

However, Alabama winning created a problem. They can’t leave a 12-1 Alabama SEC Champ out, but Texas is also 12-1 and beat Alabama head to head. Thus, they couldn’t justify including Alabama without also including the Texas team that beat them. Thus, Alabama winning secured Texas’s spot as well as Alabama’s.

A 12-1 Bama team getting in over a 13-0 Florida St team is a complete joke and doesn't make any sense no matter how hard you try to justify it.

Allow me to put this in context for you.

Einstein once said that the world is run by GREED, FEAR, and STUPIDITY.

Greed:

I doubt that the money and ratings personalities behind the curtains have ever competed at this level so they have no clue about how hard it is to go undefeated. But that probably wouldn't matter anyway because they are chiefly motivated by the accumulation of cash.

Fear:

The talking head pundits who fumble around with trying to rationalize this glaringly obvious screwing over of Florida State are selling what might have been left of their integrity to simply save their jobs out of the fear of being banished from the sports broadcasting industry.

Stupidity:

The Alabama fan base who actually think that they deserve this in spite of the fact that they didn't earn it. In stark contrast, Florida State did earn it on the field of play. Undefeated always trumps a one loss team especially in light of the fact that Bama looked like a steaming pile in several games this season with the addition of a 10 point loss on their own field.

So what we are left with is a tainted ESPN INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT while the true #3 team, Florida State, is playing in the Orange Bowl.

I completely disagree, but that's OK. First, Travis's injury changed the dynamics. If, FSU's 2nd stringer had gone Cardale Jones on Florida and Louisville, yes, FSU would have gone. But that didn't happen. FSU looked inept on offense in both games against bad teams.

The Alabama Georgia game was a play-in game. Pure and simple. FSU had no bearing on whether the Alabama/Georgia winner was going to go.

So, let's assume that FSU's 2nd stringer did go Cardale Jones on both Florida and Louisville, and FSU wins those games by 30 points and FSU throws for 350 yards and Alabama wins? The result would have been:

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. FSU
4. Alabama

There was NO WAY a one-loss SEC Champ was being left out period.

An undefeated Auburn SEC Champ missed out back in the BCS days.

Some programs are given the benefit of the doubt for more than others. Some programs are allowed extra chances, mulligans, and excuses. Others aren’t offered any margin for error.

This is why the subjective system for awarding championships in cfb has always been so asinine. A system needs to be devised to decide these things on the field, where EVERY team in FBS has a pathway to the playoffs.

Remember, this year there are TWO undefeated teams that won their conference which are not in the playoffs. Now, we all assume that neither of these teams could beat Alabama based on their strength of schedule, which may be true. But, wouldn’t you rather find out for sure by playing that game? I mean, it’s not like in the NFL teams with the best record always dominate. In fact, there have been many times when teams with less than stellar records went on an absolute tear in the playoffs and beat multitudes of significantly “better” teams. I know CFB doesn’t have the same relative parity, but you can’t tell me with a straight face that FSU on a neutral field has “no chance” against any of these playoff teams.

I think every conference champion should have a place in the playoffs, no conference should have a situation where teams are left out of the conference championship game because of subjective measures, and if some conferences are so lousy that they could never compete, then those conferences shouldn’t be in the same league, and we should relegate them to a league where they actually could compete for a title.

I agree. 12 regular season games and only 1 opponent won 9 games.

What was the SEC's best OOC win? It was a very down year in the SEC. The best win was UK over Louisville. Bama had a chance to have a good OOC win.

FSU went out in week one and smoaked LSU by 21. a top 5 team at the time.

but hey week 1 shouldnt matter or some non sense...Bama got so much better as the year went on. They went from struggling with 6-6 South Florida, to needing a prayer vs 6-6 Auburn...who got smacked by NM state the week before.

The Backups for FSU threw for more yards and more TD's than JJ McCarthy in the last few weeks.

be honest, the committee changed their criteria to get Bama in.

The SEC simply didn't earn it this season !!!!!!!!!

There were three undefeated conference champions and a one loss conference champion that beat you by ten points on your own field.

Michigan
Washington
Florida State
Texas

These four teams earned it.

So what do you have left?

"Alabama is more deserving?"

Kentucky over Louisville during rivalry week.

Ole Miss over Tulane

Miss St over Arizona

Mizzou over Kansas St

The SEC lost most of its marquee games this year:
Alabama lost to Texas
A&M lost to Miami
LSU and Florida lost to Florida St, and Florida lost to Utah
SCar lost to Clemson and North Carolina
Arkansas lost to BYU

Georgia and Tennessee didn’t schedule a single OOC opponent between them with a pulse.

If FSU winds up 14-0 and the CFP winner has one loss then FSU is the true national champion. Losses matter.

Imagine Bama being 13-0 and FSU beating number one Clemson by 10…. Bama left out for them because the sec lost every ooc game they had on their schedules … doesn’t sound realistic but Bama would be crying like little bitches .

Bama struggled with USF when they played their 3rd string QB.

Fsu beat a 10 win team by double digits with theirs.

As a Georgia fan I am glad that we could hoist the trophy last year with an undefeated 15-0 record.

We didn't have to put pressure on the the powers that be to cheat an undefeated conference champion who earned it on the field out of their slot to get in.

The SEC slogan could use a little adjusting this season...

UNDEFEATED - IT JUST MEANS MORE

The team you tied with for 4th in the lEast beat the acc #2. I'm glad you pointed out their 2nd best team was arse cheeks.

You know fsu won more games by a smaller margin than our usf score? That's not very impressive for being in the worst p5 conference.
