GT offers absolutely nothing to the conference to garner an invitation.

Good post, First time I have ever agreed with you on anything JetDawg. The Auburn-GT rivalry was a classic, the greased train-track incident is a classic piece of cfb history. There’s honestly no team I would rather play yearly (aside from UGA) than AU. Another interesting point, if the game scheduled vs. GT at a neutral site in 2004 had not been cancelled (and replaced with a patsy) and Auburn had won- the strength of schedule increase probably have gotten them into the BCS title game

Nebraska-Oklahoma was a classic when I was growing up. Tom Osborne vs Barry Switzer. With Keith Jackson on the call.

And we’re losing Mississippi State. We’ve played them something like 98 years in a row. The new schedule sucks

For us too. Our campuses are like 80 miles apart. Just stupid.

Losing the Auburn rivalry REally hurt, I and most of our fanbase absolutely hate that Tech left the SEC. We did try to come back twice, maybe the 3rd time will be a charm ??

Only way it happens is if there is a total remodel of college football into an NFL, AFC/NFC model with 20-25 teams in each league.

If we expand again, GT would be in my Top 5 candidates for sure.

I think there’s a pretty good chance that both the BIG and SEC will go to 20 teams each eventually, the Big12 too.

This is one of those lose/lose rivalries for oklahoma....most lopsided in state rivalry (at least it was at one time, probably still is) 91-20-7....if we win big deal...if they pull one off it's like a super bowl win....frickem.

I'm sure there are a lot of OU fans that are sad to see the series go but speaking from experience they'll get over it fast. Being able to play teams like Bama, LSU, Georgia,etc...instead of ISU or TTech is huge. You guys will still have Texas and get A&M back.

While true, Missouri didn't have in state rivalry to give up so you never appreciated its uniqueness.

To me it will be weird to give up the one game (or series) where your workplace, your church and your neighborhood is divided.

While an Oklahoma State fan would reach nirvana with a win over Oklahoma.... Oklahoma fans basically got nothing out of a win....just a sense of relief that we didn't lose... and be forced to deal with the giddy, sky high OSU fans at work on Monday.

Because of that dynamic... I don't think most OU fans will miss the game all that much.

Ou-Okie lite was never a rivalry and bedlam was never in the same universe as OU-Nebraska.

Are you high? We moved on from a rivalry with kansas that had real meaning beyond sports.

Seems strange to see "GT" & "SEC rivalry" in the same sentence.

They were once one of the league’s power programs. They have 5 SEC titles and haven’t been in the conference since 1963.

It was huge to Okie st but you are correct. To OU, Nebraska was THE game.

Because Okie St wants to remove a guaranteed L off of their record every season moving forward. Us leaving the BIG XII was a huge opportunity for them to remove us from their schedule permanently.

LSU/Tulane is kind of a forgotten rivalry but the Tulane fans who kidnapped Mike the Tiger and dyed him green in the 1950s should never be forgotten. Sometimes you have tip the hat even when your team is the butt of the joke.

They still have a better claim to BigVI status than anyone but Kentucky and possibly Ole Missed.

True.

It's just that usually GT is mentioned in a post with UGA.
