The SEC has done everything it can to prevent the need to kick LSU out.

They issued a statement to clarify the rules.

They didn't file the lawsuit until it was completely obvious it was the only way to prevent LSU from moving forward.

After LSU didn't roster them, they delayed the votes and tried to keep working with LSU.

LSU continued to show they did't want to go with the conference with the basketball, another showdown. So the SEC is continuing on to make another statement to LSU about the these things.

The conference has acted in good faith over and over towards LSU. If you get kicked out, it was the last resort. That's not anyone's actual goal, it will be the only form of enforcement the conference has left.

SYBAU....you sound like a liberal Karen.

Kick us out. If you don't like that duck you too.
The mere fact you think the SEC has a key to stand on in this case just shows the education of Gumps.

Not only are you wrong you doubling down on your stupid shite.

Hopefully they call a vote today and kick us out so we want have to watch your dick sucking arse make another post.

OMG - following the "rules" of the conference landed LSU in contempt of court. How many times does this have to be explained to you

The SEC does business in Louisiana and must also abide by court rulings. It is not above state law anywhere.

If the league were to expel LSU for following a court order, the lawsuit would bankrupt the athletic programs of the other 15 schools.

Nobody is arguing that the SEC is above the law. But a La. court order doesn't automatically strip the SEC of its contractual and associational rights or give LSU immunity from its membership obligations.

The scope of that order, who it binds, and whether expulsion would violate it are legal questions that require actual analysis.

And the idea that LSU could bankrupt fifteen athletic departments through litigation is pure dumbassery. You can't simply declare a lawsuit an automatic victory much less invent a damages award of that magnitude.

Do you guys get your legal knowledge from TV shows?

Unlikely. Either LSU will get into place and be a member of the conference rather than trying to use the courts to prevent the SEC from enforcing the rules, or you will be kicked out.

LSU is already "in place" and has been all along.

LSU hasn't "used the courts", it has never been a part of any lawsuit as a plaintiff. The actions against the NCAA and the conference have been going on all over the country. You wrongly have assumed that LSU is unique in being willing to take player who are eligible under a TRO. Unfortunately for you, the conference has already allowed that scenario without any punishment or pushback. Your own school did it last year.

quote:

The only other alternative to this is the SEC and the conference dissolves completely and/or leaves the NCAA without LSU.

Fantasy. This is why I'm laughing at you and will be laughing at you moving forward.

You want so much to be in control. You aren't. You are going to bend over and take it.

The good news for you is that, based on your entire argument, truth isn't needed for you to believe something. That's good for you because if/when you ever do realize that the SEC isn't going to win, you can just pretend that it did anyway. So, you'll be just fine.

...but I'll be laughing.

Sure, but there was no need for any of that.

Why not simply wait till LSU rostered the players and then penalize them, as agreed upon by the conference?

The SEC didn't have to prevent LSU from breaking the rule, they didn't have to make threats. Simply punish them.

I absolutely agree. I’m more than done with you backstabbing, traitorous motherfrickers. I don’t want to be in this conference or affiliated with any of you anymore. Either kick us out or I pray we leave. Willingly or not.

The SEC filed the lawsui and LSU is contesting its claims and seeking dismissal. That's what challenging the SEC's position in court means.

Nobody said LSU initiated the lawsuit. You're confusing who filed the case with who is disputing the legal claims. And calling someone a nerd doesn't change reality.

It will be heard soon. As soon as it's gets thrown out all of us can troll the shite out of you like you do everyone else on here.
So get ready.

Wrong. They filed at the exact moment they were testifying against the constitutional rights of the players who filed the suit. The ruling hadn’t even been handed down yet. The league filed at that time to avoid the appearance of trying to get the Federal court to override a state court case it knew it was going to lose.

I cannot believe people are defending the SEC of all groups. The SEC.

The reason why this thread is at 10 pages is because people obstinately won't read the legal thread and keep rehashing ignorant points

Yes, Bediako played five games for Alabama under a temporary court order. It's a fair comparison. The difference is that Alabama stopped playing him once the court denied his injunction and accepted the outcome.

You think that's a difference that is positive in relation to LSU which never played them...never even rostered them even with the injunction?

continues to challenge the SEC in court

By being a defendant in a case brought by the SEC? Do you think LSU can unilaterally tell the court that the suit should be dismissed and the court must agree? (FWIW, that's exactly what LSU did. It acknowledged it wouldn't roster the players and said the suit was moot)

quote:

Both schools had eligibility disputes, but they've taken different approaches to resolving them.

You are a strange combination of dumb and dishonest.

The fact you are making arguments like this only solidifies the stance of the SEC and other members.

That is literally what the court ruled. The SEC was told not to punish LSU for rostering any of the players in the suit. The SEC appealed that decision and lost.

Why?

The SEC created a rule and a set of penalties to mitigate this exact problem and then completely jumped the gun and sued LSU before any rules were broken.

Why is the SEC so insecure in its ability to enforce its own rules?

You're confusing the fact that LSU never rostered the players with the larger issue of the SEC's authority to enforce its eligibility rules. Those are two separate questions.

Alabama played Bediako while a temporary court order permitted it, then stopped when that order was no longer in effect. Alabama complied with the court throughout the process.

And being named as a defendant doesn't automatically settle the question of whether LSU's position conflicts with the SEC's authority. You're correct that LSU cannot unilaterally dismiss a lawsuit but that was never my argument.

If LSU has acknowledged it won't roster the players and considers the matter moot, fine. That still doesn't make the underlying dispute over conference authority disappear.

You can disagree with my comparison without resorting to personal insults. They don't make your argument any stronger.

The SEC dragged LSU to court and LSU is merely a defendant. LSU has at no point challenged any aspect of the SECs authority. Not 1 iota. This is the power of the media. They can brainwash people into saying red is blue

You are a voluntary member of the conference. If you think it's so bad, then leave.

They make a bunch of stupid decisions no doubt, but when you put yourself above it, you're putting yourself above all other members of the conference.

You're still missing the point. A court order restricting the SEC from imposing specific penalties does not invalidate the SEC's contractual rights or eliminate LSU's obligations as a conference member.

The ruling addresses a particular dispute not the SEC's broader authority to govern its conference. The fact that the SEC lost its appeal doesn't change that distinction.

Nothing you've said refutes my argument. You're simply repeating the outcome of a court proceeding as though it settles an entirely different question.

Completely not true

The larger issue remains the SEC's authority to establish and enforce its membership standards.

LSU’s brief argues the conference has the power to remove LSU from its membership at any time under its own bylaws, so any “forced association” the SEC is complaining about is self-inflicted and doesn’t count as the kind of injury that lets a federal court get involved. “No one is forcing the SEC to associate with LSU,” the brief states.

LSU, in its legal rebuttal to the lawsuit, has stated that the SEC can enforce its bylaws.
