The film takes awhile to get going, but the payoff at the end is worth the ride along with Buckley’s well deserved Oscar winning performance.
I chopped onions while watching it so I can’t speak to whether or not it’s tearjerker.

Don’t like the religion. Don’t trust the practitioners.

We cannot put aside the first amendment just because we don’t like Islam.
We will, however, uphold our laws and demand that they assimilate enough to tolerate other religions, keep the peace within their communities, and treat others with the same respect and dignity that they have been provided by the Americans who welcomed them.
They will afford the same freedom of religion to others that they have been given. No compromise there. Ever.

I mean, if the city had denied it, it would’ve been a clear 1st Amendment violation. If Catholics and Baptists and Jews get to build religious schools, so do they.

The Executive has control of implementing immigration per SCOTUS . They could defund ICE but Trump could call up the NG to step in. It was ok. Waddingham’s assassin could’ve gone in a Mary Sue direction but they managed to allow the problems caused by her double life along with her relational and moral issues a worthy challenge to overcome.
Spencer’s character needed more challenge on her bad character judgment (husband, best friend) and I kept waiting for her husband to say, “But I never asked you to do those things for me. You never included me. You just decided for us.” The husband was unforgivable for becoming corrupt and dishonest but it was ok for Spencer to bribe other legislators with tchotchkes and perform quid pro quos behind his back.
I thought the penultimate episode was such an awesome gut punch all around that I thought the season should’ve ended there and season 2 could’ve focused on Waddingham’s Judith having to prove her friendship while Spencer’s Debbie learns hard lessons about overcoming her naïveté and controlling nature. The resolution in episode 8 was way too tidy.
Both me & Mr. Bluestem groaned at the Thelma & Louise climax.

It’s going to be a huge risk for Dems to impeach him. They did 8 years ago and still needed to shut down counting in 5 states to beat him in 2020. Winning the midterms is never a mandate for trying to remove the sitting President.
They also cannot pass any legislation because the Senate shuts down for the trial. It’s a stupid move that would block them from getting any kind of compromise from a President who would be willing to do so.
Politically, they could try it once (maybe), but if he’s not convicted (which he won’t be), they can’t play that card again without completely jeopardizing 2028. In all reality, I’m pretty sure they torpedo their chances in 28 by impeaching him just once.
