OR the difference is LSU did not roster or play in any games professional players and Alabama did. Alabama stopped after the court decision you say? Then why does the SEC threaten LSU for looking to court decisions? Why did the SEC allow court decisions to settle the issue of eligibility for Chambliss?

How do you idiots not see the utter hypocrisy and bullshite faux outrage you are vomiting?

The court also told the SEC it could not punish LSU for doing so. Hence, the players’ contempt filing…

You're contradicting yourself. You acknowledge the SEC has the authority to expel a member, then declare it powerless because it hasn't done so.

Choosing not to exercise that authority isn't the same as lacking it. And whether those players were properly classified as professionals is a separate eligibility question.

The larger issue remains the SEC's authority to establish and enforce its membership standards.

I know this is hard to understand but ...............

And that's the problem and why you are going to be kicked out of the SEC.

You can either be a member of the SEC and follow the rules and standards of the conference with the other voluntary members, or you will be kicked out.

You don't get both. You can be a non member and fight with the NCAA over these rules all you want.

You're making a fair distinction about which players actually took the field but that doesn't establish hypocrisy. Alabama played Bediako under a temporary court order and stopped when that protection ended.

LSU didn't roster or play the disputed players. The SEC's concern however, extends beyond whether they appeared in a game.

The question is whether the conference can enforce its eligibility and membership standards consistently while complying with court orders. That's the issue. Regardless of which school is involved.

Then why is LSU in contempt of court for not keeping the players?

If you want the courts to be the standards, that's fine. You'll be removed from the SEC
Again, the courts have ruled that no school can punished on account of these players.

Correct. It does.

However…

Because the SEC distributes money and negotiates contracts for its member institutions, it must afford its members due process prior to a vote. It must investigate and compile the evidence of rule breaking. Which, at this point, hasn’t happened.

What has happened, as predicted by AG Murrill in her amicus brief, is that the SEC coerced LSU into a position where it violated a Louisiana court order.

The SEC does business in Louisiana and must also abide by court rulings. It is not above state law anywhere.

If the league were to expel LSU for following a court order, the lawsuit would bankrupt the athletic programs of the other 15 schools.

It doesn’t matter. The OP doesn’t care about the truth. And in truth, the SEC doesn’t need to be right. It can expel whenever it wants.

It won’t. The fans who assumed it would happen are now very disappointed to find out it really is powerless.

The SEC has done everything it can to prevent the need to kick LSU out.

They issued a statement to clarify the rules.

They didn't file the lawsuit until it was completely obvious it was the only way to prevent LSU from moving forward.

After LSU didn't roster them, they delayed the votes and tried to keep working with LSU.

LSU continued to show they did't want to go with the conference with the basketball, another showdown. So the SEC is continuing on to make another statement to LSU about the these things.

The conference has acted in good faith over and over towards LSU. If you get kicked out, it was the last resort. That's not anyone's actual goal, it will be the only form of enforcement the conference has left.

LSU's actions prompted the SEC to seek a federal ruling on its ability to enforce conference rules and membership standards.
I fully understand this and explained all of the implications in the other thread. The SEC has a losing case. It's bad. Go look at other labor precedents.

quote:

The SEC is asserting its right to govern its own membership
Yes, at first it was merely about the 5 for 5 players, which caused the simple contempt ruling. Now, the SEC has stupidly broadened to a full labor dispute and hastened their potential for losses.

It's amazing how obtuse you're being about this. You're making people cover ground that's already been covered

Since when is it ok for the SEC and LSU to openly defy court rulings against them?

And the filed the lawsuit while they were testifying in court on the eligibility matter.

Or they could, you know, wait until the rule was violated and then sanction LSU with the penalties that were voted on by the conference prior to the season.

There's always that.

The SEC filed the lawsui and LSU is contesting its claims and seeking dismissal. That's what challenging the SEC's position in court means.

Nobody said LSU initiated the lawsuit. You're confusing who filed the case with who is disputing the legal claims. And calling someone a nerd doesn't change reality.

The SEC filed the lawsuit when it was clear that LSU would keep moving forward without it.

LSU only complied after the fact, going as far as to have the players on campus and practicing like normal players.
