IMO, the reality is that if you think you are going to line up with 2 TEs and a FB and run over Bama's base defense- you are stupid.

3 and 4WR shotgun Formations are used to get them into nickel. The running plays are standard powers, buck sweeps, etc. You can run a little with 6 in the box sometimes- especially with a mobile QB, but if they have 7 in the box- it's tough because Bama's front 7 is excellent.

Very well said. If a program like LSU, with all of its athletes and recruiting prowess, could adjust its offense to counter bama's weaknesses, there would be a power shift in the conference.

Since bama got their well-oiled machine up and running, Auburn is the only program who has managed to take power away from Bama:

Best teams in the SEC (decided by SEC Title OR National Title if won by non-SEC Champ):

2009- Alabama
2010- Auburn
2011- Alabama
2012- Alabama
2013- Auburn
2014- Alabama
2015- Alabama

The reason Auburn has succeeded where LSU and others have failed is because their offense typically counters Bama's weaknesses. So does Ole Miss' offense which is why the Rebels have had the next most success against the Tide during this time frame.

Auburn doesn't have the consistency though to completely take power away. Ole Miss doesn't either... and save one recruiting class, it doesn't have the athletes.

LSU, Georgia, Florida, and maybe Tennessee have a shot... but they must adapt to counter Bama's weaknesses. So far many of these programs look reluctant to make the changes necessary.

We've had some problems with those QB's in the past. We don't so much now. Watson will make plays, just won't be situation like Manziel.

Saban changed/evolved his philisophy to recruit players that are more flexible and can defend the entire field. He also adjusted his own offense to keep up with the growing trends.

If more coaches were willing to get out of their rut and quit being so stubborn, they've be able to evolve with the times....looking at you Coach Miles.
