You do realize that US law supersedes any bylaw the SEC or NCAA might have. If the federal bureau of investigation wants him to keep quiet, he'll keep quiet. He's a lawyer and former judge, he knows how this works.

I should add that all of this discussion is speculative at this point. There is absolutely no evidence that Slive or the FBI have any such agreement. Would I be shocked if this were true? Not any more shocked than I would be if any of this other stuff turns out to be true.

Everyone seems to be questioning why Auburn played Cam in light of all of the allegations being made. First, at this point, they are merely allegations, and I'm sure Auburn hopes to be able to deflect them or defeat them without any adverse consequences. Second, what does it matter if Cam plays? If he does not play, more than likely Auburn loses to Georgia and there goes the BCSNC and maybe the SEC championship game. If he plays, all of those goals are still in play, subject to the results of the investigation. However, my thought is that, if even some of the more serious allegations are proven, Cam is going to be declared ineligible from the beginnning of the season. All of the Auburn wins will be vacated. I would see no difference in perhaps being declared to have a record of 1-11 or 2-10 if Cam doesn't play, versus 0-12 if he does play.

If Auburn didn't play Cam, it would pretty much automatically mean that something went down. So I think AU is making the right decision to play him. I mean if all this is true anyway, I think our worries stretch a little further than knowingly playing an inelgible player.

And if any AU fan says they aren't worried then they are lying.

You have to. There is no question about it. There is no downside to playing him now.

I've got to think that the old saying about how it is sometimes better to ask for forgiveness than permission does NOT apply to the NCAA and questions of eligibility.

I think the train of thought with them playing Newton is that they are so royally screwed at this point that it really doesn't matter whether they sit him or not. If they sit him, they lose the last 2 games and it was all for nothing.

I would add....Even if the win it all and go down in a ball of flames, they are forever written into the NCAA football history as winning it all only to be stripped of it all in the end.

By playing Cam at this point it is also insult to teams that didnt cheat...kind of sends the wrong message to the good guys....

I'm having a lot of trouble keeping track of what's Germans and what's not. I really need to forget about the Cam issue and just wait for the hammer to fall (or not), but I can't look away from this thread!

Prehaps now is a good time to talk about the indictement process and grand juries.

This is a good link:

LINK

It is my understanding that a grand jury that has been looking into the colonial probe tc just recessed last week. When a jury recesses that generally hand down indictments.

Unlike what you see on TV who is indicted under a true bill and who is not is secret. The FBI then will take the indictments and arrest the indiacted parties or not as needed and/or desired. Often taking a few months to work up fooe chain.

I just thought it might be a good times to talk about the indictment process.
