Solid post!

Hypothetical:

What would be a harder pill to swallow for bama fans?

1. Close game in Death Valley and LSU kicking a last second FG to win? LSU goes on to win the west and SEC, keeping bama out of playoffs.

2. LSU plays waaaay over there heads and controls the entire game (UGA vs LSU). LSU wins west and SEC but OSU, Clemson, ND drop a game and bama makes playoffs only to lose title game to LSU

Will likely depend on Notre Dame. Pac12 likely has taken themselves out of the CFP race. B1G assuming Ohio State wins with no more than 1 loss likely is in. Clemson, assuming no more than 1 loss is likely in as well. Still a lot of football to be played, but both of those things seem pretty likely, so if ND goes undefeated, 1 loss non-SEC Champ is likely left out.

Don't think a one loss Clemson gets in. Must go undefeated.

And why do you think they would be left out of the playoffs?!?

I think everyone knows Bama is the best team, but I just don't think the committee likes the optics of 2 SEC teams making it twice in a row.

The BCS was scrapped and the Playoff Committee formed as a backlash against the SEC and 2011, because the rest of the nation was sick of watching all SEC all the time. The entire universe cheered when Ohio State won that semifinal.
But things reverted last year with 2 of the 4 being SEC teams; and as it played out, both SEC teams made the finals and Bama won yet again.

If LSU wins and runs out, it will be a legit contender, and carry the SEC banner. The rest of the world wants to see Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Clemson win out too, and ideally one of them to win the playoff. Even though everyone will still assume Alabama would be not only worthy at 11-1, but would still likely win the whole thing again.
But I think, if we get 2 SEC teams in again, the entire format will be tweaked yet again. And that means the committee goes bye bye. I don't see them voting themselves out of existence.

So, actually, I disagree with the OP

The rest of the nation doesn't want LSU to win. They want Alabama to win, and lose in the playoffs by some miracle. LSU winning creates a disaster for them.

America's favorite team... who is playing Alabama. It is what it is.

Delusion at its finest. The only people who like LSU are LSU fans, you may pick up a bandwagon group, but the “college football nation” doesn’t care. The “college football nation” wants their own team to win. Not LSU.

Yeah, e'erbody but Gumps want LSU to win that game.

Don't kid yourself

The Gumps will have to get beat twice in order to miss the dance. With one loss they sit back and wait for their invitation. Kind of like your mother-in-law during the holidays, she'd have to murder someone in order to not be at your house for Christmas.

I can't wait for y'all to go back to being depressed and hating LSU for hiring Farmer Fran from the Waterboy as your coach

He’s not well Sid, at least he’s honest. Bama fans are getting a little nervous, their nerves will be even more strained if LSU beats State.

Then comes this two week stretch that I don’t think Bama fans will enjoy at all, anxiety attacks through the roof!!!!!

A 20 point beatdown only earns a rating of decent? So if only a decent team took the Dawgs out behind the woodshed might not want to go counting a win just yet against "god-awful" Florida or Kentucky.

No way a 1 loss Bama is left out of playoffs. That game means literally diddly to Bama unless they lose another. The pressure is all on us.
