Dude, take a deep deep breath and don't take the bait. On another note, opinions are opinions, and so are polls.

I agree with you that opinions are opinions. But you can find poll with Bo as the best with Hershel as the best with Tebow as the best, if it isn't laughable for Derrick to be considered the greatest SEC player of all time then you should be able to find at least one unbiased poll somewhere with Derrick as the greatest. IF you Bama fans want to say it's not laughable then produce at least one poll.

I have already said that Derrick was one of the greatest SEC players of all time. I am not taking anything away from him.

And defense is as important if not more important than offense. But with offense and being a RB you get way more chances to impact the game, that is the point that Bama fans don't seem to be getting.

However, when you compare the two of them to Bo and the impact he had on the game it isn't as close as it should be because offensive played can make a bigger impact.

Bo Jackson is one of the greatest athletes to ever grace the SEC, but he is hardly the greatest player in SEC history when you actually take into account achievements on the football field.

Wasn't Barrett Jones an All-American at 3 different positions?

Find me an unbiased poll where more than one defensive player ever appears in the Top 10. These polls are always geared more towards the offense.

A defensive player, with one play, can impact a game just as much - if not more - than a Heisman Trophy-winning QB.

By that logic, the greatest player has to be a quarterback, since he touches the ball far more than a running back. Your argument is inconsistent.

ANd fYI Reggie White was better than Derrick Thomas.

And not listed in that page is that Thomas had 68 career tackles for loss. Thomas was in a completely different league than White as an SEC football player. DT couldn't be blocked. No defender in the history of this league has ever struck fear in an offense the way that Derrick Thomas did, and anyone that knows anything about football will tell you the same thing.

If I could only have one, I would rather have Thomas than Herschel on my team

Derrick Thomas was unstoppable. I've watched pro and college games of his from back in the day. At the very least, I would say him and Reggie are neck and neck.

If Reggie White is the Minister of Defense, then Derrick Thomas is most certainly the......President of Pass Rush?

I can't believe you guys are still debating who is the greatest SEC player ever. I get it because of the title to this thread, but who is the greatest is purely subjective. I didn't follow DT's college career, but I am a first hand witness to his pro career. Seen him many, many times during Chief games at Arrowhead.

Other than Len Dawson, there isn't a more revered and popular player in Chiefs history. DT changed the mindset of opposing offenses, they had to gameplan around him, and most times, it didn't work. Watching him play was a thing of beauty. His only weakness as a player was against the run, but you can say that about most pass rushers. No doubt he was one of the best of all time at his position.

When he died, it devastated KC. They showed his memorial service at Arrowhead on pretty much all the local channels. Yeah, he was that big here. I know the DT experience I had was post college, but still damn proud and glad he made it into the CFB Hall of Fame.

Great defensive player maybe the best linebacker, but not the greatest player by any means.

Not gonna weigh-in on the Reggie White (NFL GOAT DL) vs DT debate. I think it's comparing two different positions.

But DT's induction was long overdue.

Don't get to used to it but this is for Derrick - Roll Tide Roll!
