I think the 10 years between Stallings (national title) and Saban (national title) was the worst 10 year span for Alabama since at least the 1920s.
The 50's weren't kind to Alabama either.

Agreed. Luckily, James Howell's database that Stassen uses is still current to the last full season:

The real difference is you inbreds never spent a dollar to that University other than at Wal-Mart.
I'm an alumnus.
I'm from Tuscaloosa.
Was a TIDE PRIDE charter member with 4 season tickets until I could no longer travel.
Do these qualification get me out of the "inbred" category?

OP, you are selling the LSU pre-Saban record very short.
They had some down periods, but LSU was better than what you suggest.

You haven't won even ONE since Saban left. LSU has won two in the post-Saban era.
It’s literally been one full season of Deboer. Lol. It took Les Miles 4 years after Saban to win a BCS with a 2-loss team.

Saban woke a "sleeping giant".
He did awake a sleeping giant. I mean, when Coach O was named the head coach, the whole nation laughed at LSU (and LSU fans were pissed off about hiring him). And yet, he managed to go 15-0 and win a national championship at LSU in what a number of people consider to be the best season of all time. The same Ed O who won 3 SEC games in 3 years at Ole Miss.
Before that, it was Les Miles winning a NC and making 2 NC game appearances. And he could barely string
together a coherent sentence at times.
Saban showed that if you recruited Louisiana extremely well and plucked a few studs from other states, you could win it all at LSU. And nothing proves that more than Les Miles and Ed freaking O winning natties at LSU.

I actually agree with this. I’ve loved LSU since I was a small tot, because it was the home team, but I’m old enough to have seen what the team was pre-Saban. Some decent/ good years, mixed in with some not so good years. There’s a large generation that only knows Saban and afterwards. These are the ones that can’t fathom LSU being anything other than championship contenders. Even under Les Miles, you always felt like they had a chance against anybody. But who knows? This is a new era for college football. I think when the dust settles, the few schools that can afford to pay the most, year in- year out, will be the perineal contenders, with a lot of “also rans” slipping into the 32 team CFP ever couple years or so.

LSU has surprisingly done pretty well since Saban left. Saban went 48-16 (.750 winning %) and 3-2 in bowls with an NC.
They have gone 199-70 since he left for a .739 winning % and have gone 13-6 in bowls with only one year where LSU opted out of going to a bowl. And they had two undefeated regular seasons, 3 SEC Championships and 2 national championships since then.

Told this to my wife the other day.
Les Miles had great success… but less than Saban… Oregeron was a notch below…. And Kelly was an even further notch below.
All have been riding the wake of Saban’s success and the foundation he built. But LSU is sinking back to reality.
Also, DeBoer = the early days of Les Miles right now at Bama. So far successful… but only a matter of time before Saban’s wake diminishes there too.

Yeah. I have no illusions that DeBoer or any other coach will be as good as Saban, and I realize we have been extremely lucky to have Bryant and Saban.

Les Miles didn’t coach a team to a national championship before taking over at LSU. Deboer did. Will Deboer have as much success as Saban did? I highly doubt any coach will in the world of NIL and the transfer portal. Not even a younger Saban would. Deep rosters are a thing of the past.

You're right, we didn't win the natty last year. That's the only completed season since Saban left. Dumb arse.

Historically they are a top 15-20 program. There are a lot of of unranked seasons in there.
Even Nick Saban only finished ranked in the AP top 10 two out of his five seasons at LSU.
In the last 50 years, LSU has finished ranked in the AP top 25 twenty seven out of fifty seasons (54% of the time LSU finished ranked). In the last 50 years LSU has finished ranked in the AP top 10 eleven out of fifty seasons (22% of the time they finished ranked in the top 10). In the last 50 years LSU has finished ranked in the top 10 six out of eleven seasons (12% of the time they finished ranked in the top 5).
And that is with Nick Saban for 5 seasons.
A top ten program doesn’t finish unranked 46% of the time.

Only reason this is the case because LA best players left for traditional blue bloods and never stayed in state. Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne, Marshall Faulk, Brock Berlin, Warrick Dunn, Travis Minor, John David Booty. Arnez Battle from my high school did this too. Went to ND in mid 90s. The state has always ranked 1st in NFL players per capita. Saban just helped LSU keep them in state. It shouldn’t be hard for the next coach to keep in state recruits.
