It’s different when Ole Miss does it. Haven’t you been paying attention?

The SEC rules would allow him to play, not the LSU guys. Where is he breaking the SEC rules?

One of the rules is not signing a deal with a team. Looking through that Twitter thread he signed a deal with something called Exhibit 10, that’s linked to the Utah Jazz, but I would guess out of a technicality he did not sign with the Utah Jazz.
That’s the only thing I can think of.

I read further. He actually did NOT sign any deal. His amateur status and eligibility are preserved.
Massive L from the broken LSU fans.

It's interesting that the Summer League isn't considered "professional basketball."
quote:
The NBA Summer League provides an excellent platform for budding athletes to exhibit their abilities. Only players with active NBA contracts are guaranteed salary, although all players are eligible for a per diem and other benefits. The typical cash prize for the 10–12 day event is roughly $1500 per player. Compared to NBA contracts, this sum may seem negligible, but it’s significant for up-and-comers nonetheless.
In addition, the NBA clubs pay for the players’ lodging and two meals a day, as well as their round-trip airfare to Los Angeles, where the tournament is to take place. Teams will spend around $6500 (not including the cost of coaches) to bring each player to the Summer League. The League may not pay very much, but it is still a crucial stepping stone for athletes to showcase their talents, get noticed by NBA clubs, and maybe earn a roster position in the upcoming season.
Just another example of the SEC being inconsistent.

Carolina league baseball also gives college players a per diem and free housing.

Ole Miss got popped with a level 1 violation and punished after a player got kicked out of his GF’s apartment and slept on the DL coach’s couch for two days. That was immediately self-reported and the player compensated the coach for the amount agreed upon by the NCAA. Same level of violation and punishment as if they just gave the player a house.
Burn it all to the ground.

Why are you okay with Trinidad skirting the rules but not other players?

Because professional players shouldn’t be playing college ball
