God’s will in regard to small matters in this world is His business, not mine.
He told us “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
Based on that, I know there are simply things that I should not pray for. We are not supposed to pray for things of the world. Joel Osteen would disagree because that truth would put his arse out of business.
Should I to pray to God for the Arkansas Razorbacks football team to “play to the best of their ability”? No, I should not.
Same as I shouldn’t pray to God for me to be specifically so successful in life that I obtain that rare model antique Corvette that God really wants me to have! So that I can glorify God when I drive the rare model Corvette! That’s crap and you know it. You and Foo and Joel Osteen and the Clemson fan are at various levels of the prosperity “gospel” here
Should I “pray for both teams to be injury free” even? Why would I? That goes against the very argument you and Foo are making about what is predestined. Should I also pray that God goes back in time (which He could certainly do) and change the fate of Job’s family so that they not perish? Nope. So then why should I “pray for the teams to be injury free”? Because that’s what is normally prayed when someone is being showy, praying out in the streets so as to say “Look at me!” and it’s undeniable that’s what the Clemson fan is doing.
But Foo doesn’t like me “painting with a broad brush” fake Christians. But there are many. Some people who claim to be Christians are fake when they wake up, fake all day, fake when they go to bed.
Foo’s not a fan of the term. I wonder why? Because I John 2: 15-17, Colossians 3;2, James 4:4, Romans 12:2, etc., etc., are specifically calling out fakes, those committed to worldly things, some of them no doubt bleeding over into the fake showy praying in the streets type activities.

Looks like a Christian posting a prayer on a message board.
Not seeing what's so cringe about that.
It just seems kind of sacrilegious for somebody to pray about a game. Like it's wasting God's time or something.
Kind of reminds me of this song, and yes, I know those girls are gay but I couldn't care less. It's a great tune imo. In the end it's not really about a request for a favor, but about searching for a connection with Jesus.

Obviously, the poster HumbleServant is a very faith-based individual. Mocking a person's faith and/or faith-based actions is not advised.
On the other hand, our football program is in bed with a gambling empire. How's that working out?

Boy, this has been a thread
is sort of entertaining. I read the first post yesterday then didn't click on it anymore till this morning. Kind of took off since then. Politics and religion tend to do that.

Always amused when the inmates from the world's second largest unwalled penitentiary post mindless prattle. Sorry Louisiana doesn't have the landmass to overcome Oklahoma.

Granted, I didn't real all this thread, but I'm at a loss as to how the state of Louisiana has a thing to do with this topic.

DSJ referred to TAMU as a cult, and billy was so offended by it that he used his 66th post in 9 years to address the matter.

ha. I visit this board more than I do any other right now, but sort of a weird forum. I'm going to ignore what that might say about myself.

Cringe???????? What the heck is wrong with you people. Is it wrong to say a prayer for your team. He is a strong fan of his team just like all of you are to yours. Why mock him but that seems to be the way of the world today.

If you are praying to god for your college team to win, you need to get your priorities straight.
Not to mention all the delusion mixed in with it.

Maybe not wrong, per se. 1000000000% cringey. First, being of the belief that God favors your favorite team more than others - to the point of helping them play better vs competition, is among the most arrogant mindsets I can imagine. Second, bringing that prayer to a public football forum - seeking others to pray for help for your team to be better & for unity among the fans is among the cringiest things I’ve ever read.
That cringe factor has nothing to do with his faith & everything to do with the content.
