The Cocktail Party v. Clean Old Fashioned Hate

Lots of threads about Georgia's biggest rival, but every Georgia fan knows it's Tech.
The Cocktail Party describes a game experience. DSOR is just a fact. UT is just a win.
Old fashioned hate is the state of feelings between these schools. We call them "little brother" and downplay it but can't deny it. Would have been clean old fashioned hell for Beck, Bobo, and Kirby's staff if we lost. Glad we pulled it off in an instant classic.

As I heard it said this week:
"You're never too young & it's never too early to start hating Tech"
Helluva great week to talk shite with tech fans and an all timer of a rivalry game

DSOR has the most meetings (129), but in-state has something special to it.
I live in Kentucky, and the biggest rivalry is by far is Louisville-Kentucky (that said, Kentucky did not play Louisville for a long time, so older Kentucky fans would say Indiana is their biggest rival). Same with Florida-Florida State, Texas-Texas A&M, Alabama-Auburn, South Carolina-Clemson, Iowa-Iowa State, Indiana-Purdue, USC-UCLA, Cal-Stanford, etc. Obviously, there are some exceptions when one school is far superior to the other (Tennessee-Vandy, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, Oregon-Oregon State, etc).

You must be close to 90 years old. No one but old codgers think Tech is a bigger rival than UF.
Tech isn’t even in the same league as UF or any SEC school. They are a whiney bunch of nerds and geeks who wake up every morning with Georgia on their mind. UGA fans hardly think about GT unless it’s Thanksgiving week.
Georgia needs to drop this game. All
It does is give credibility to a weak ACC program that would have died decades ago if not for the prestige and money they get from playing UGA.
It’s time to move on from this game and their cry baby coach. Did you see this “tough” guy crying like a spoiled toddler who just had candy snatched out of his trash spewing mouth.
GT really needs to pay this guy more since it seems he can’t even afford a jacket or sweater in near freezing weather conditions.
He’s the really tough guy who reportedly ordered the heat in the press box at GTs ridiculous excuse for a stadium to be turned off last week. Guess he wants everyone to be as “tough” as he is. I got the impression those announcers didn’t appreciate it.
Yep. He’s really tough. Crying like a baby tonight.
He got what he deserved tonight. He’s the stupid man who thought it’d be a cool idea to say he hated UGA more than anything in the entire world. All his comment did is fire up Georgia and their fans even more.
I truly belief that was the deciding factor in tonight’s game when UGA played their worst game in years. Georgia simply wasn’t going to lose to this idiot. His tears warmed our hearts and we loved every minute of his hurt. Hope it hurts for a long long time.
And hey, Brent or whatever your name is, we hate you too. More than you can imagine. Not more than war, famine or cock roaches. But pretty damn close.

Coach Goff said, and I'm paraphrasing, ""if you don't think Tech is Georgia's biggest rival, try losing to them."
I'm kind of old, so I understand and remember feeling that way.
Tech rises up about as often as cicadas hatch, but it hurts when they do. The maggots excel at lording the rare win over you for 364 days, but then they go underground for a decade or two.
Depending on what's happening in a given year, I can get rivalry juices flowing for Tech, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee, but it's so rare nowadays that any of these step up.
Hats off to Tech for making a good game of it tonight.

The late Lewis Grizzard once said that GT thinks about Georgia everyday. Georgia thinks about GT the week of Thanksgiving
He was right. This game means nothing to UGA unless they lose. Then it’s a big deal. Fortunately losing this nothing game only happens about once every 20 years or so

Georgia is a public Ivy. You have to have a very high SAT and at least an A average to even be considered for admission.
GT can act all high and mighty. Claiming their football players are ticket scientist who take calculus. That lie doesn’t cut it anymore. Thsy so called calculus course is also taught at Perimeter College and is only a modified math class. You recruit top athletes like the SEC schools. If one of them with questionable academic skills even took a second look at GT you’d beg him on bender knee to come to GT. Academics sure wouldn’t matter to y’all then. It’s true. You can deny it all you want but you know it’s the truth.

Many UGA fans never went to UGA. They went to GCSU, Southern, Kennesaw St, or West GA and just root for UGA so they have a good team to associate with. Never have run into that with Tech. Like you’re a Tech fan if you went to tech. Georgia St is good about rooting for their own program too.

Where did you pull uga is a public ivy from? A list from 2001?

They have high admission requirements for students entering out of high school but those same high admission requirements don’t apply to kids transferring in from other universities/colleges. I graduated high school with several imbeciles who had a low C average that went to Gainesville St for 1 or
2 semesters and then transferred into UGA and graduated from UGA. The curriculum taught at UGA is no different than the curriculum taught at any other SEC school

We don't even think about you UGA.

I lived in Georgia (Gwinnett and Henry counties) from 84 to 13 (with a break of 6 years in the military). I'd say GT rivalry is pretty damn important but also so is the Gators. Just depends on who presents the biggest challenge to Georgia at the time.
Just my own take: Dawg fans can be annoying at times (the barking mainly and gotdamn they can drink) BUT the smugness of Tech fans is completely insufferable.
Dawgs are a pretty good fanbase compared to the rest in the SEC

Eh? you sure about that? I've known plenty of people who went to UGA to get their core classes out of the way and then finished at Clayton State or Georgia State.
UoG is even easier than UoA and even LSU. It's a pure socialite school like UA is.

This right here. I don't consider myself old, but I was around during the Richt/ Paul Johnson years. The tech was more competitive then, imo, although we still usually won. BUT man when we lost it seemed like nothing else mattered for an entire year.

Thank you, and the young kids just don't get it. This game has a different meaning. I think Keys is gonna help reinvigorate this rivalry.

This is the same for most schools. Of course, Auburn is the SEC safety school. Good luck today Tiger!
