I am not even sure that there is a correct answer here but McFadden is definitely in the Top few. Chubb was a terrific back, for sure, and in the top class of runners in his era. As an LSU fan, though, no runner scared me like McFadden. YMMV...

He wasn't huge and didn't have 4.3 speed,
you obviously weren't in Sanford for the 05 game, where you would have seen firsthand that he had closer to 3.4 speed.
That was still probably one of the fastest td runs I've ever seen by an opponent in Athens

He was not light years ahead of Chubb, Michel, and Gurley. Chubb was the best IMO.
I loved watching all three of those guys but Chubb is my favorite. His yards after contact were amazing.

Don't worry friend, they've made great advancements in medications that can help people like you.

"by an opponent" ?? Are we talking about the same thing here? I was talking about Moreno, a UGA back.

Ingram doesn't even sniff this list/grouping. Least deserving Heisman "winner" ever. Dude didn't even win the Doak that year.

Only OU fans would say that DM was the better college back.

He's neck-and-neck in a group including McFadden, Chubb, Peterson, Todd Gurley, Moreno and Mark Ingram from Bama.
Ingram isn’t even the best Alabama back of the last 20 years.
The best of the last 20 years are Peterson, McFadden, Henry, Fournette, Chubb, McCaffrey and J. Taylor.

Moreno doesn't deserve to be on the list.
He might be the best RB in the red zone (and I wouldn't have a problem holding that argument).
But you can't be on a best running back list if you can't bust a long TD at any moment.
Best running back should be a complete back with every weapon in the arsenal.
It is one of the reasons I give LSU fans grief about Perkins (he comes off the field in the red zone).

No, I said I'm not sure it's particularly close.
McFadden was triumphant as a tailback. And I saw every UGA back you listed, and was in Bryant Denney Stadium when Ingram lit up SC in 2009. I also saw Marcus Lattimore run all over damn near everyone he played.
McFadden was the best of those listed.

I can’t believe a UGA fan has to be the one to submit Derrick Henry.
McFadden was the real deal. He almost beat us at home in 05 by himself.
Chubb is an iron man. That guy is second all time rushing in the SEC with 2 ACL’s and he probably winds up with the most rushing yards in the NFL by any SEC back this century.
Ronnie Brown was a serious BA for about 10 years in college and the NFL.
No telling how good Lattimore could have been without the buzzard luck injuries.

I firmly believe he has a Heisman if he stayed healthy.

Never seen a jersey number 404. Give us a hint. Who is it?

Just to add to this remember DMAC had houston nutt calling the plays and C. Dick as the QB who only passed when we had to on 3rd down. (DMAC was prolly a better QB) So basically he got all his yards against defenses that knew he was going run and would stack 9 or more in the box. NONE of the rbs mentioned here had to face that.

Toby Gerhart did some work in his day. Easily should have won the Heisman in 2009.

McFadden is elite, IMO. Like Hershel Walker, Bo Jackson level elite.

Because the argument always devolves into Henry only “being good for one year”. Even though that season was freaking ridiculous. It’s old and tiring.

I didn’t stutter. He was so much better than chubb was in college.
He might've been after Nick tore up his knee in Neyland. But prior to that, they were certainly in the same tier. It took Chubb over a year to get back to his norm. NFL is not close.
First 18 games of college career
Chubb 2292 yards rushing,7.0 YPC, 21 tds, 22 receptions, 245 yards, 3 tds. (Chubb only had 31 carries in his first 5 games playing behind Gurley)
McFadden 1803 yards,6.0 YPC, 18 tds, 20 receptiosn, 150 yards, 1 TD (McFadden only had 45 carries in his first five as I guess due to his youth and inexperience, so comparable)
