I cannot believe Auburn didn't get a transfer QB before spring practice. Absolutely mind-boggling.

The timing was tough. He got hired the week before the portal opened and it closed 45 days later.

If the Coastal Carolina QB, McCall, would have worked out academically, he'd be at Auburn right now. Someone can probably explain it better than me, but he's going to have to complete a lot of hours if he's going to transfer by fall. Not sure he even knew that since he had visits set up in December, but cancelled them when he realized he wouldn't have been able to transfer anywhere.

I'd be very surprised if we don't get a transfer that can compete for the starting job after spring.

Why didnt Freeze bring in a transfer?

He's bringing in like 100 transfers. Just no QBs

Nah. They'll be 5-7 at the worst.

OOC is Charmin soft (Cal for their P5 OOC game) and they get Vandy from the East.

Freeze turned the '23 class from #56 in the nation to the top 20 in 2 months

Meh I see this a lot but this statement is overblown. He landed a couple big 4 star flips sure but it was numbers game as why AU was ranked so low. They jumped 30 spots with 4-5 recruits because they were hanging with schools that recruit solely 2 star and 3 star players like Northwestern, etc. The 2023 class overall was not very impressive by SEC big boy standards.

That's not the point though.

The point is that in a very short amount of time, he salvaged a very bad class and flipped a couple pretty good players as well as brought in some key portal transfers. No one thinks the '23 class is going to be the keystone to a playoff team.

It looks as though we have the potential to have an elite '24 class. He has to close on a lot of these kids, but he has more elite players interested and visiting/re-visiting than any coach in Auburn history and he's only been in the job for more or less 4 months.

The first class was just a stopgap and he did a pretty good job being in the role for only about 3 weeks before early signing day. We'll still have to rely heavily on the portal for certain positions(OL being the biggest) for the next class and possibly the one after considering what he walked into.

Why did Calzada leave?

But, the real story was terrible quarterback play. Yes, the conditions were bad, but quarterbacks Robby Ashford, T.J. Finley, and Holden Greiner were downright awful.

Bama fan should understand bad weather can affect the game. After all we saw Mac Jones win a game by completing only one pass.

And for the idiots saying “oh now you are comparing Ashford to Mac Jones!”

Why yes I am.

Because he was behind the other guys. Let that sink in.

But going back to HS rankings, he was ranked lower than Ashford, Finley and Geriner

Before I start digging his grave I'll wait until this spring magic portal is complete. These programs suddenly change overnight when you can just put in a call from someone else's bullpen.

Don’t know about that. One thing we do know is that Freeze loves hookers.
It’s cute that you think Georgia is quaking in fear at the thought of a Freeze coached team. He won’t last 3 years.

The needs are everywhere guys....More offensive linemen, edge rushers, linebackers and safeties.
Freeze stated a week ago that if there is a QB in the portal that can help Auburn win immediately he would go after them. Crickets!!!!Why waste money on a bad investment?
Perhaps Freeze and Montgomery think they can develop Ashford somewhat. If so, the investment of a 3-4 year offensive lineman instead of a one and done QB is brilliant and builds for the future.
Let's not lose site that nothing is expected of Auburn this year. However, they will be a tough out if Ashford develops. If he does, you better score 35.

Yes. He would’ve had to transfer in the first portal cycle to be eligible next season is my understanding.

Not as a grad transfer. He graduates at the end of the semester.

Well, I know y'all have a commit from the #35 recruit in Georgia. Who else do you expect Auburn to sign?

Not transfer, just put his name in the portal by the end of the first portal cycle for interconference transfers. It’s an SEC rule.

He could wait until spring to transfer and be immediately available BUT his name has to be in the portal by the time it closes in January to be immediately eligible for fall sports.
