If the are a top national brand why does nobody watch them.

Because they play one decent team every year and the game is played at noon. If they were playing LSU, Alabama, Georgia, etc in prime time, the ratings would be good. The Texas/LSU game had a 190% increase from the previous year in the same time slot. It was also on at the same time as the A&M/Clemson game and had a million more viewers than that game did. It was the 4th highest rated September game in 10 years. One of the higher rated games in September? Texas v Notre Dame a couple years prior

Take OU screw Texas.
I get the feeling OU wants to go wherever Texas goes.

One big reason is probably to keep the relevance of the red river shootout that generates a lot of money for all parties involved.

Their perch atop the revenue rankings of athletic programs every year by a very large margin would indicate you are dead wrong.

They’re absolutely revenue earners for their own university, but revenue rankings =/= TV ratings.

The State of Texas is bigger than Arkansas, MS, Louisiana, Alabama, Missouri and TN combined.

On top of that they are a national brand. They will always run the state of Texas.

I have a hard time believing they want to give up so much power and OU wants to give up the easy route to the playoffs.

It feels a little bit to me like Sark is involved with this in some fashion. He knows it’s best for Texas football to be with the big boys. It will boost recruiting etc. I know the road will be harder but I think sark is thinking Clemson, Alabama big for the future and probably doesn’t feel like he can do that in the big 12.

Pick a program that you see is a definite national brand and compare Texas' stats/facts to theirs. I won't do research for you, but it's a fact that Texas is a national brand.

You could bring up Texas to any recruit or fan and they know about Texas. I promise.

Be that as it may, their fanbase is massive, and if they all start turning on their massive amounts of TVs to watch UT play A&M, Bama, LSU, UF, and UGA rather than the not so massive amounts watching them play Kansas, WVU, and Iowa State, then yes, it will be immensely impactful on every school's bottom line. That is the only thing driving this: money money money.

Money talks (Texas generates the most in the country), and bs walks (such as your meaningless statistics).

They generate themselves money because of wealthy oil booster.
Ask the SWC conference what they thought of Texas and now the conference they are in is falling apart.

this is 2018 but I think this is the only stat you need ::

FootballScoop has obtained financial data for every FBS program through the U.S. Department of Education. As required by the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act, we're able to sort sport-specific data for every school in the country. (Well, almost every one. Privates such as Notre Dame and USC had data available, but select schools like Connecticut and Temple were not present.)

Texas, unsurprisingly, led the nation by a wide margin by a whopping $33 million. The Longhorns have maintained their lead despite enduring the program's worst decade since the 1950s. UT's revenue has more than tripled since 2003, the earliest year data is available, when they led the country with $47 million in football-specific revenue.

The data below covers Fiscal Year 2018, running from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. And, we should add: bean-counting at the college level is always tricky because accounting practices are not standard across the industry.

Without further ado, here is the latest data according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Power 5 -- Top 15
1. Texas -- $156 million
2. Georgia -- $123 million
3. Michigan -- $122 million
4. Notre Dame -- $116 million
5. Ohio State -- $115 million
6. Penn State -- $100 million
7. Auburn -- $95 million
8. Oklahoma -- $94.8 million
9. Alabama -- $94.6 million
10. Nebraska -- $94.3 million
11. LSU -- $92 million
12. Tennessee -- $91 million
13. Wisconsin -- $90 million
14. Florida -- $85 million
15. Washington -- $84 million

or you could go by the college football value rankings ::

LINK

or you could compare Texas vs the NFL (from 2015) ::

Or you could talk about merch first google hit for it is a 2013 article where Texas is #1 for the 8th straight year ::

Again they make money for themselves. They ruined the SWC and now their current conference is falling apart.

Ok since you like to Google things. Google wealthiest athletic programs. UT leads by a decent margin. They’re a massive brand dude.

Wait, wut?

Uh? Wasn’t your OP that Texas isn’t a national brand?

I was simply pointing out with links (as you requested) that even in the midst of the worst decade of football since the 50s, mired in absolute mediocrity, Texas is still the biggest brand in college football. Texas also just won the Director’s Cup and would bring tons of success, prestige, and titles to other sports.

I guess you could be more wrong about something but you’d really have to work at it.

If you can convince them they are not what they used to be then you should run for POTUS. If you can do that then you could get a peace treaty between the Arabs and Jews. It may be easier to get a peace treaty between the Arabs and Jews to be honest.

Texas is obviously a national brand but there is something to be said that brand overexposure in the 00’s combined with coaches that have been hard to like (the current recovering alcoholic, the previous douchebag, etc.) combined with arrogance every time they are close to success (“We are back!”) has made them a team that has been easy to root against nationally for the last decade. Maybe the country’s biggest anti-hero that hasn’t made the playoffs yet, a title that should be going to a Miami or a USC.

And before anyone points out that Aggie fans shouldn’t talk, this is one time when our lower national profile has served us well. We have been seen as a “new” thing in the SEC, and JFF was easy to like and Jimbo is hard not to respect. It’s different.
