For sure should have beat Georgia in the SECCG last year. We chose to run backwards instead. I'll start there.

I’ve always said Vince Young dragged the Longhorns kicking and screaming to a national title.

Texas was really good that year. They had a lot of NFL talent on that team.

I give them credit for beating an equally talented USC team in USC's back yard.

Loaded with talent that year.

Not discounting Vince's acute ability to will his team victory - but he was horrible at showcasing just how great everyone else around him really was. Texas could have dominated that year with Greg McElroy or AJ McCarron at QB. And you would have seen how great some others really were.

Go back another 7 years and we have 4. I agree its pretty pathetic to have 1 on 50 years

There looks to be a direct link to scholarship limits being implemented in the 1970s and Texas having 1 national title since then.

I really don't know how I missed that you were a sock.

Damn. Is there anyone here who isn't a sock?

You have 0 national titles in the last 50 years with any other QB other than Vince Young, I may give you Cam Newton as the one exception.

Maybe. Same with Nebraska not being able to have so many non scholarship players helping their teams.

Either way as a Texas fan (and everyone I know agrees) 1 natty in 50 years is pathetic even though we have had our chances for 3/4 others. No one denies that.

The difference between us and Auburn is we win 10 games every year not 6. Plus we win major bowl games against top programs. That and the fact that right before the 50 years started we won 3 nattys in a realy short span
Dont ever compare me to your practice squad

You people are like a bunch of round-earthers running around in 5 BC.

Although you are right, you're not getting anywhere. And it frustrates the shite out of you.

The Texas Brand eclipses all.

What year(s) do you think you should have won titles? I think 2008/2009 you absolutely could have another potentially. Do you think Texas was the best team either of the last 2 seasons and "choked"?

Choked
1983 - muffed punt vs Georgia

Good Enough
2008 - We got robbed. Idk if we beat Florida or not, but the 2008 team was better than the 2009 team.

2009 - I liked our chances until..

2023 - Washington was the one team I was worried about.. if we escaped that game, I think we beat Michigan, perhaps by a fair margin.

2024 - We were good enough last year, but I think Ohio State was probably the better team. Injuries to Quinn & Baxter probably the difference, but I don't look at it the same way as 2009 with Colt. Quinn got hurt in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Had he stayed healthy, we probably have at least 1, maybe 2, but that cat isn't built that way. HIs numbers fell off quite a bit each year after he got hurt.

If Arch stays healthy, we have a really good shot the next year or two, depending on how long he stays. If he doesn't, then I'll add them to this list. This is the most talented Texas roster I've ever seen, top to bottom.

Easily 30 draft picks on this roster, and perhaps quite a bit more, may even make a run at Alabama's record if the younger guys develop the same way as the last couple of years. I know that sounds crazy, but it's possible imo. Win or lose the next couple of years, the talent is there.
