How do you think they got Arch and got Quinn to return? Had to buy them. On their own merit, they were pulling in 15th ranked recruiting classes. It took them have to be able to buy player to start getting good classes, but it'll be same as TAMU, Texas recruits are always overrated, it shows in that they are at the National average in NFL players per capita, but a state like Louisiana is at 2.7x the national average in NFL players per capita.

I made a post about recruiting ranks of teams since 2020 and how it changed after NIL. Pre-NIL like class of 2021, Texas had 15th ranked class. OU stayed consistent because they don't have money to buy players like Texas. But pretty shabby you can't do it on your own merit, and have to buy players.

Texas 7 SEC wins also went 16-40 combined in the SEC. They played only the bottom half on wins, then lost to only top half team they played 2x. So yes Texas proved they were better than the bottom 7 SEC teams last year. Is that supposed to be surprising? I'd say not. I think most thought that Texas and OU could fit into the middle of the SEC and have a Top quarter year here and there.

Yes but actually Auburn has played for twice as many national championships in the last 15 years as Texas has. So yea let that soak in.

First 2008 was a while ago and I do remember yall being good because we were undefeated at the end of the regular season and lost to Tebow in the SEC championship.

But If i’m not mistaken, Oklahoma won the Big 12, and they played Missouri for the title that year.

How can that be?

Doesn't Texas have the last all-white national champion?
One title since black athletes were allowed to play in the south.

Surely NIL is the only reason

It’s not like Texas got a new coach in 2021 or anything

Texas beat A&M on the road to close out the year. Pretty sure they finished tied for 3rd

Why is it the longhorns’ fault that they beat the opponents that other teams within the top 7 lost to?

3 teams finished 11-1

Texas beat OU
Tech beat Texas
OU beat Tech

The tiebreaker was stupid and somehow OU went to the Big 12 Championship. They changed the tiebreaker soon after.

I’m not saying we “should have” won the NC.. just saying that team was damn good.

Texas so full of themselves I can't even argue with an Auburn fan. Good post, WarEagleTigerPlainsman.

Program 10-win Seasons (1965–2024)
Texas 24
Auburn 8

While criticism of our lack of titles is definitely warranted and frustrating as a fan and alumni, it's always hilarious when it comes from fans of teams like Auburn.

How exactly would you describe Texas 8&4’s overinflated and false sense of self worth?

Texas was better than Oklahoma in 2008 and not just because of the H2H win. I was at that game. Despite the loss, that was a heavyweight battle. Fckn Shipley!

The final BCS standings reveal on Fox had Barry Switzer in studio and a lot of us knew that OU may have just squeaked by Texas. I know Texas fans were pissed. I think Texas puts up a better showing vs. Florida.

Since the 1970 title, Texas played for national championships in 1977, 1983, 2005 (won), 2009. Had McCoy not been hurt, Horns likely win vs. Alabama.

Had Texas won the 2001 XII title, I think they could have hung with Miami.

The 2004 team was very good and a nice preview for the 2005 dominance. I’m still baffled at the 12-0 Sooners over Texas result. Texas vs. USC in 2004 and 2005 would have been fun.

Since this is a period of the last 54 seasons, let’s look at the total number of years both OU and Texas played for a national championship whether it was an actual NC game or a bowl win would have likely vaulted each to the top of the polls:

1977 Texas
1977 Oklahoma
1983 Texas
1984 Oklahoma
1987 Oklahoma
2000 Oklahoma (won)
2003 Oklahoma
2004 Oklahoma
2005 Texas (won)
2008 Oklahoma
2009 Texas

OU and Texas both know they could have had more than the current totals of 7 and 4. It’s frustrating.

Your the only one frustrated who blew about 5 titles with Stoops alone.
If we had been in position to win 6 we bring home 3 or 4.
Out of 6 chances you get 1
Thats why it doesnt hurt much the last 25 years as a Texas fan.

You’re lying if you say it doesn’t hurt as much being a Texas fan. Texas, much like OU, blew many chances to add more hardware when they were the better team.
