Texas fans we need to talk about our qb

Why hasn't our qb taking big foward steps as a starter. I mean i like our defense is great. But arch is suppose to be capable starting qb and he playing worse than fazion who is a true freshman. What is going on?

Maybe Sark and scheme? Not real high on O line coach? But arch doesn’t seem to be able to hit the crossing patterns over the middle, doesn’t look and is not accurate. Just my opinion

The better question is why are we asking the same questions about Manning in 2026 that we were asking about Ewers in 2024?
What is the common denominator there in both cases as far as play calling, coaching, etc?

The only reason he was highly rated out of high school is because of his last name. Anyone with eyes and a brain could see that while looking at him in high school and seeing his mid stats against 1A competition he would be far from a sure thing in college. I kind of hoped he would prove me wrong, but he really hasn’t done that. Luckily Texas has a great defense and a solid run game.

Arch seems to excel best when he is on the move, can improvise, has the option to run.
I don’t think he is the best as a pocket passer reading defenses, which is how Sark has been wanting to use him.
I can only assume Sark is de-emphasizing his mobility and shifting the pocket so he doesn’t get injured.

Sarks big problem as a coach is he recruits the wrong kind of QB for his system. He should go after the kid that processes quickly and goes, not guys liken Quinn and Arch. They are great kids but DO NOT see the field or understand Sarks offense. In the Tenn game receivers were breaking clear and Arch never looked their way.

The fact is, had his last name been Smith rather than Manning, he probably would not have ever signed with a P4 school

Colt McCoy, durability aside, would have been excellent in the Sark offense with his quick release, high accuracy, and ability to see the field. Maybe Sark needs to sign a few more "gritty" types. I bet there are many 3A, 3 star QBs from Texas that would jump at the chance to play for the Longhorns at minimal cost initially.

Texas sometimes goes after the "football correct" recruit. They can get anyone they want.
Sims a few years back never lived up to the name.
Im kinda glad they have those TX homeboy standards.
Their defense will win them many games.
A great running game (which uTX is historically known for) and Arch is all they need.

If Arch could eliminate the boneheaded mistakes that keep us behind the chains, we would look much better. He actually had a decent game throwing the ball, but we were at 2nd and long way too often on Saturday. The illegal forward passes. Taking unnecessary sacks. I feel like I've seen him throw the ball away twice this year, maybe. He doesn't need to be Peyton, but he's gotta cut out the stupid shite and quit making it harder for himself.

Agree and Arch issues aside this is probably the most frustrating thing for me regarding Sark. Texas hasn’t had a consistent running game since we came to the SEC. Yes part of that is better defenses but our OL has just been atrocious, and I don’t think it’s talent but Sark’s scheme. No reason a school like Texas shouldn’t be able to pound it and then flip it out to receivers when they load the box. Sark makes things too complicated. I don’t care how much of an “offensive guru” he is, if the players can’t run it it doesn’t matter.

And other problem is that he doesn't have a oc. Which is weird because it make it harder on sark for in game decisions. Basically too much on his plate.
