OU is way above anyone. Mainly cause they beat us more often than not.

I get more satisfaction with a win over Arkansas than A&M but it’s more a family thing.

After those, probably Baylor,

Texas has the upper hand in H2H (63-51-5), even with OU kinda dominating the Big 12 run. OU has all those natties and Heisman’s, though. Weird divergence.

It’s a little harder to give them too much credit for running up the score in conference championships. It’s actually been rare for them to have more than one challenger for the title.

Arkansas couldn't have joined the SEC during the early days of college football due to logistical challenges. This was back when travel involved the train and didn't have plane or bus. So travel was too far in the SEC for Arkansas to become a member of.

Arkansas did have talks with the Big 8 in the early 80s but it fell through for some unknown reason.

Arkansas contacted the Big 8 in 1987 but was rejected.

You have to go back to 1943 now before Texas has the permanent lead in the series and the amazing thing about that is that Texas' largest lead in the series ever came in 1970. They had a 21 game lead and lead 42-21-2.

OU has closed the gap by nine games since 1971.

I don't know the numbers... but it is interesting that both Texas A&M and Arkansas have made headway in eating into Texas' lead since the 1960s and later.

And what is really strange is that Texas really doesn't have all that much to show for those early years despite complete domination of their three main rivals.

From a neutral Texan, I would say Longhorns biggest rival is OU but that is for college football only.

For everything else in life, it is A&M.

Put more simply, OU is the undisputed top rival for one Saturday in October. For the other 364 days in the year, it is A&M, Mainly because they have to live and work beside Aggies everyday and are essentially driven nuts by them.

If you want to know who their true rival is, ask them who they would root for in an OU vs A&M matchup.

Texas and OU are rivals.

Texas and Texas A&M hate each other.

Texas fans would almost always root for a&m in that scenario. It’s hilarious seeing OU lose, and a&m already does that all of the time

Plus, OU was usually in Texas’ way to win the big 12 south. A&M never did, nor really came close, in their last dozen+ years in the big 12 before they ran away

Well, here's a 25th one.

Even if all things were equal, the game in Dallas makes the rivalry.

The best thing about this thread was that it was a question asked to Texas fans and aggies have since flooded the thread losing their collective minds because their feelings are hurt by the honest answers

Guess they’re just not as important as they think they are

That's exactly what it is, mutual respect. OU #1 rival but we still respect them.

That's because they have beaten your asses so many times of the last 50 years that you really have no choice.

Strange. You’d think if that was the case, then our little brother would show their superiors much more respect

distant 3rd would be piggy but we all know they would have us number 1 by a long shot.

At one time that would have been the case. Now I'm not so sure. I miss those Friday after Thanksgiving games with LSU way more than I missed the Texas game.

Cool. Anyone can cherry pick years. Since 1975 the series is 19-18 Texas A&M. That’s very even. If you’re younger than 50 years old, in your lifetime it’s been a toss up every year, no matter who is the better team.

“Oh yea you big meanie! Well… if I go back another quarter of a century, I can find when a&m has a measly 1-game advantage over Texas in an extremely cherry-picked year during a time period they were cheating so much they had multiple bowl and television bans. So take THAT!”

Dude… you can’t think that sounded like a good comeback

Im just over 30. Texas has dominated in each sport throughout my entire life except for women’s soccer

Then again, a&m has had some success in baseball recently. Word is their coach was the single-greatest coach in men’s athletics history! Sure hope they secured him to a long extension to keep that success going!

Oh wait…
