Texas Dethrones Ohio State as the 2025 Most Valuable U.S. University Athletic Program
Before y’all haterz get too wound up, note that 7 out of 13 billion dollar U.S. university athletic programs (including aggy) are members of the SEC. I’m sure that Sankey’s heart is swelling with pride!

Texas Longhorns – $1.48 billion
Ohio State Buckeyes – $1.35 billion
Texas A&M Aggies – $1.32 billion
Georgia Bulldogs – $1.16 billion
Michigan Wolverines – $1.155 billion
Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Over $1 billion*
Tennessee Volunteers – Over $1 billion*

Alabama Crimson Tide – Over $1 billion*
Nebraska Cornhuskers – Over $1 billion*

This is exactly why college football is dying.

Thank you for caring enough to explain that nobody cares about this topic…
But in the NIL era, there are certainly long term big links between athletic program dollars, hiring and retaining top coaches, and fielding competitive teams.

It absolutely matters when NIL revenue share is based on revenue

No, but like many of the fans on this Board, we’ve still got a perfect season next year…

Our Texas non-alters know that we are still gonna have to beat y’all this decade to advance.
I’m actually going to root for y’all, or Alabama, or Ole Miss to win the natty this year. Let’s don’t let the B1G win three years in a row! I don’t want another year of hearing the sports talking heads crowing that the “big tough” SEC can’t get it done…

I do. Interesting article. A few things stand out.
The best programs are pulling about $200 million in media, ticket, and merchandise revenue - yet we're hearing them cry about paying out $20 million, 10%, to the players. I want you all to keep that in mind. They don't mind paying $10 mil to the head coach ... but $20 mil to the product on the field is somehow a bridge too far. Ah - I feel for you Big Time College Athletics. I just can't reach you.
Also interesting - the top schools are getting $100 million+ right now annually from donors. I can't imagine that's sustainable - but we'll see.
Final thought - ticket sales do matter. A 20% drop in ticket revenue at Ohio State led to a 10% overall drop in the annual take. So its not ALL about the TV revenue. At least not yet.

More impressive when you consider the relative population of these 4 states, honestly.

Texas is America’s greatest flyover state.

We’ll take repeatedly beating you and still in the playoffs over this ‘dethroning’

Right, and despite the opposing fan flack they get, these $1B + programs are definitely not “poor”…

So that’s why you’re sitting next to us watching the postseason right?

You’d have to take a look at average ticket prices at select stadiums to draw a more accurate picture. Columbus is a very large city. Nearly a million people. The more people, the more there will be diversifying interests.
Not everyone is football or bust. Columbus also appears to have a high co concentration of Somali and South American immigrants. While football is still king in certain northern states, that is slowly being replaced by lacrosse and soccer. It probably won’t happen in states like Ohio, but it also means these diversifying interests are long term
