I agree, it’s fricking hilarious that we haven’t won a conference championship in 23 years and we STILL have more conference championships than LSU.

I can't really speak as to the historic records but in my lifetime at least, LSU has more national championships than Aggie has division titles and I like that.

At different times different conferences were stronger or weaker. The Big 12 was actually pretty stout from '96-'10 when everyone bailed and won several NC's. Hell in '02 A&M hired away Bama's coach (which was unfortunately a disaster for us and eventually led to Saban for Bama). After Nebraska, CU, A&M, and Mizzou left the Big 12 became a joke.
Most of A&M's Titles were in the SWC which was a solid conference up until Arkansas left and then A&M completely dominated the last 5 years and had no real competition as we destroyed everyone (oh, and we won 5 straight against LSU until you ran away). We won 6 Titles in 8 years followed by an undefeated season where we were ineligible for the Title.
Most of A&M's modern history is a very good but not great team that flirted with greatness but has had trouble closing the deal. For instance in the last 47 years we have had 5 losing seasons. In the SEC we have gone 42-31. Nothing to brag about but not exactly horrific.
What matters though is where do we stand NOW and where are we going. A&M has to close though and as of yet we haven't done it in recent memory.
