Lack of Institutional Control could still be on the table. This is only the initial letter of allegations. They've also requested more documents and information, if you'll read through it thouroughly. More could be added before it makes it to the Infractions committee. Tenn will respond, then there will be a hearing, then it'll go to the Infractions portion.

Hamilton and Pearl are nothing but clowns. They are a disgrace to their positions. Hamilton should have been fired years ago and Pearl on the spot when the NCAA said he lied to them.

Kiffin, leaving on his own accord and getting staunchly defended by the AD is going to hurt, imo. To the folks that keep sayin, well, Kiffin is gone.. it's not because he was canned or ran off. And the guy that hired him and defended him is still there. Tenn is gonna be suffering from some strong penalties.

They are going to have to make sacrificial lambs out of Hamilton and Pearl to survive honestly. And that doesnt mean the death penalty before some idiot reads that literally. But with the sanctions they are gonna get if they DONT fire them, their program is gonna be dead in the water for a couple years.

I just feel bad for Dooley. I really like the guy and he has really stepped into a shite storm with absolutely no control over whats happening.

There's a page and half in the LOA asking for more information. That it was coaches doing everything and your current AD is still in charge isn't going to help matters. I may be wrong, but I've seen enough the last decade and a half, to know that the NCAA doesn't favor a program when they aren't totally contrite. And Tennessee never was during the entire time under Kiffin or since really. They were openly defiant, the coach was flippant and arrogant and the University backed him 100%. I believe I'll be more right, than wrong and you will be the disappointed one. If I am wrong, I'll say so when the time comes in June.

Failure to monitor?!?!?

Failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance?!?!

And thats just the initial LOI. No telling what they will add after the meat of the investigation is over.

Not sure I would be so optimistic.

Tennessee apparently argued a failure to monitor charge out of the allegations because the athletic department had informed Kiffin not to carry out certain actions. The investigation uncovered that he went against the university's directions, which is why he was slapped with the charge instead.

From the LOA, Tn was asked to submit:

section n.

A detailed description and explanation of all disciplinary actions taken against any current or former athletics department staff members based on the involvement of these individuals in violations of NCAA legislation as determined by the institution in this inquiry.

Tn will have nothing to give them in this regard. Tenn will not be able to show they did anything to curb Kiffin or that coaching staff during his tenure.

I'm not hoping for this. If fulmer was stil the coach there, then yes I would. But now that that fat cocksucker is gone, my ill will towards your school is gone. They are still a fierce rival, but I no longer hold the disdain that I once did.

I do still however think that that is by far the ugliest shade of orange ever defecated by the color spectrum.

They can still add charges at this point. This is only the initial letter. It's got 2 more things to happen before it even makes it to the Infractions Committee. Read the actual Letter of Allegations here. The NCAA is asking for a ton more information and answers and that will play a pivotal role in what they may add or choose not to add from this point. This is simply the first step. The NCAA goes like this:

Investigate
Letter of Allegation
Response of University
Meet again for final charges
Submit to Infractions Committee
School given chance to appeal
Final disposition.

Right now, Tn is at the first step in the actual communication between the schools and they are still investigating.

Either way, those of us who defended Lane while he was here, myself included, owe Pete Carroll a gift basket.

I'd hate to be a USC fan if they get popped under his tenure. He played a role with the Bush thing, now this at Tenn and back at the scene of the first crime with the same staff. I'm betting the NCAA is keeping a close eye and UCLA is keeping a closer one.

Alot of wishful thinking. What our coaches in both sports did is not enough to be put under "major santions." I know that the Alabama fans would love to try and compare this to what they have done over and over in their history, but it just isnt close.
