He hasn't had a #1 recruiting class yet.

I think his class last year was number 1 per rivals. Either way, done very well recruiting. This was his first full year of recruiting at a school, and he pulled in a very good class despite NCAA issues.

I think he's good with quarterbacks but I haven't seen any evidence he's a good head coach. His teams have let down games and his best game ever is probably a close loss to alabama

To me that sounds more like charlie weiss than bob stoops

Unless the NCAA prevents it, Kiffin will eventually have to much talent and too good of a staff not to have a good amount of success, at least at the college level.

the staff you are referring to? are you mostly pointing to his father and Yaw Yaw?

Just wondering

And the talent thing alone won't cut it at the highest level.

LSU went 8-5 and 9-4 with elite talent in 08 and 09... UGA has been underachieving a lot over the last four or five years with top tier talent

Anyway, back to the OP

quote:

By a former head football coach: failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the football program and failure to monitor the activities regarding compliance of several assistant coaches have also been made against a former head football coach, and permitting a football recruiting intern to make impermissible contact with high school staff during a recruiting visit.

Does this pretty much amount to Ogre being Ogre and the football intern being a hostess verging on a professional slut?

quote:

By the three members of the men's basketball assistant coaching staff: failure to furnish full and complete information relevant to the investigation.

I agree with others on the thread who are saying the biggest problem for Pearl was lying about what would have otherwise been a small time violation(s)

I do think it merits punishment... but it seems less dirty to me than for example the UCONN case (which probably deserved more significant punishment than they received)

LINK

quote:

The case includes more than $6,000 in improper recruiting inducements, impermissible phone calls and text messages to prospective student-athletes, failure to monitor and promote an atmosphere for compliance by the head coach, failure to monitor by the university, and unethical conduct by the former operations director, among other violations

quote:

The committee found that in his “zeal” to get the prospect admitted to the university and eligible to compete, the head coach allowed a booster, who was a certified agent by the National Basketball Association, to be involved in the recruitment process. Further, the committee found that the head coach “overlooked indications” that this booster might be breaking NCAA rules. Specifically, the booster provided the prospect with impermissible inducements, including the payment of at least a portion of the expenses for the young man’s foot surgery; the cost of his enrollment at a basketball academy; the registration fee for the SAT; as well as strength, conditioning and basketball training.

(Again all that stuff quoted and linked directly above is UCONN not TENN)

Calhoun himself was involved:

If you think lying about a secondary violation is worse than committing 8 major violations, I feel sorry for you.

did you mean to reply to me?

because nowhere did I say or imply that... in fact I was pointing out the UCONN case looked worse than the TENN case for basketball... and they somehow are getting by with a slap on the wrist

I think the punishment for Pearl so far has been appropriate tho... just that Calhoun and UCONN are getting off very easy
