Here's one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_v._Board_of_Regents_of_the_University_of_Oklahoma

TL;DR:
Schools wanted to make money from games on TV, and setup their arrangements to do so.

NCAA said "NO! Y'all are prohibited from that this course of action. We run this shite!".

UGA and OU said "Please, we ask that you reconsider."

NCAA said "NO, BITCH!".

UGA and OU sincerely said "frick YOU!!!!" and took the NCAA to court, where the pig-frickers' illegal monopoly of football on TV was destroyed once for all.

And then America got to bask in the glory of College Football, all Saturday long, happily ever after.

NCAA punished a Boise st player for sleeping on his girlfriends couch a few days between moving apartments (she was also an athlete at Boise st). Called it an impermissible benefit, minor violation for the school.
But it was fine when he stayed over in her bed after a night of railing her holes.
Go figure.

In the 70’s an Auburn coach was cited because he gave a potential recruit a ride home in the rain. He passed him in the road and saw him walking in the rain.

I remember Dale Brown saying he wasn’t allowed to take a player and his parents to lunch and pick up the bill.

Just an example of how silly and petty some of the rules are.

Dale Brown was in favor of eliminating the ncaa decades ago.

Russell Shepard moved in with his fiancé (now wife) off campus, then his fiancé got hired as a grad assistant for the track team, ncaa tried to step in and call it an impermissible benefit.

The NCAA camped out in Auburn for an entire year. If you’re referring to Newton’s eligibility Auburn did that so it would force the NCAA to state if he eligible or ineligible to play because at if he was ineligible that meant every game he played in Auburn would have to forfeit the win. I actually met the gentleman who oversees the university compliance with the NCAA in 2010. Smart guy

I’ll start. In the early 80’s one of the LSU basketball players died of cancer and the NCAA prohibited LSU from traveling to Missouri ( As I recall ) for the funeral on the school dime . Feckless bureaucrats. That anybody ever saw these guys as anything other than a self- interested money and power grab amazes me.

This led to the longest lasting NCAA investigation in College sports history. In the end it took bribing Lester Earl to lie about getting payments from LSU in return for being granted immediate eligibility at Kansas. that is also why i LOATHE Roy Williams.

NCAA and soon-to-be OU President David Boren screws A&M with invevstigation announcement the day before their game in Norman.

Giving A&M a TV and bowl ban in '94 was BS compared to punishments programs like OU received.

MSU got a two year probation because a football player received a clothing discount that was given to all students.

The Kevin Fant tire story is another good one. A tire store in Fants hometown let him leave with new tires until his mother got back the next day to pay for them. The tire store owner knew the Fant family for years.

We got a level 1 violation because a player slept on an assistant coach's couch for 2 nights. His GF kicked him out of their apartment and he had no where to go. The school self-reported the violation. The player payed the coach $33 per night stayed(amount determined by the NCAA). We still got a level 1 violation.

That's the same level of violation we would have gotten had the coach bought the player a house.

Billy Brewer took some recruits to a strip club in Memphis. We got DESTROYED by the NCAA over that. They said it was a 2nd worst punishment from the NCAA behind SMU's death penalty.

The rule violated wasn't that they were taken to a strip club. No reports of them being bought lap dances or anything. The rule violated was that the recruits were taken beyond the 30(?) mile radius that the NCAA allows for official trip travel. We got the 2nd worst punishment in NCAA history because they were driven too far from campus.

They spent a lot of time and resources investigating Donte Moncrief when he was here because he borrowed his brother’s car. They threatened to rule Moncrief ineligible for all of 2013 if his brother didn’t turn over financial records proving he could afford a nice car. His brother was a successful barbershop owner in Hattiesburg at the time so he could easily afford it and proved it out and threatened legal action. Just one of many investigations that went nowhere during their 6 year stint on our campus.

The two people that downvoted this post are mentally ill.

The NCAA investigator made claims that were borderline racist. I'll always say that the following investigation happened SOLELY because that dipshit had egg on his face. It was the same guy both times. I've heard Freeze popped off at the guy about the Moncrief deal and frickhead decided to make it his personal mission to take him down.

oh yeah....

A guy admitted to the NCAA that the school he signed with paid him but they didn't give a shite about that because they wanted him to snitch on us.
