in the entire history of the playoffs so far, whoever lost the NC Game has been ranked #2.

We haven’t ever had a 58 point loss in any postseason game before, much less the national title game.

UGA played a nearly perfect game, and with its loaded roster, they would have beaten the brakes off of anyone that day.

No , not anyone ,
which brings us back to the opponent that day ,
with holes you could drive a semi truck through
and pass completions where the receiver is the
loneliest man in town. Let's don't get too carried away with the debacle witnessed
that day translating into Georgia taking any quality team to the woodshed.

Our players were playing lights out. Yes, the opponent had something to do with that, but our team executed far better on Monday than they did two Saturdays prior.

TCU's 3-3-5 is very beatable when properly prepared for and with excellent personnel like UGA has. We have one of the best OLs in the nation and dominated the LOS. The key to running against their defense (aside from big bodies moving smaller bodies) is having running backs be patient and hitting the holes that form after a few seconds rather than trying to barrel ahead as soon as you get the ball. The holes were there by design and our RBs were patient, as they needed to be.

Part of the end result was due to UGA having the better, more physical players, but a big part was our offensive game plan against what TCU schemes. We executed the game plan flawlessly.

That happened only a few times that I recall. At the same time, Bennett was fitting laser beams into tight windows and our receivers/TEs were making good catches. The ball that McConkey went up for and the TD catches by Mitchell (one-handed) and Bowers were contested and our players came down with the ball.

We played several ranked (in the final polls) teams that we beat by several TDs. The OSU game was the outlier in terms of quality wins that were close.

Even though TCU didn't belong on the same field as UGA, don't forget that their only two losses were in their conference championship game and in the national championship game. They aren't nearly as bad as we made them look.

It isn't a good look to advance a team sitting at home on conference championship Saturday over a team who actually played the game. Even after a loss.

You didn't qualify this statement.

What is the weighting factor for playing a game, verses not playing? Verses lopsided wins and close games? Two loses in a tough division vs no loses in an unknown power 5 conference.

The point isn't so much your statement but the committee never being consistent [and certainly not disclosing what factors they consider]. Even the 'Ohio State vs Michigan game was competitive until it wasn't' statement was absurd.

All of this is water under the bridge, and I celebrate the Dawgs being numero-uno.

I just wish there wasn't a mysterious committee [who's beholden to ESPN] making decisions of this magnitude.

I think I made it apparent that the question wasn't qualified.

Again, the relevant question to 2022 was a team with 1 loss in the regular season adding another in the post season. Versus a team with 0 losses in the regular season and 1 loss in the post season. Versus a team with 1 loss in the regular season who sat at home the first week of the post season.

I can't agree with you more.
The discussion needs to be televised.
Shed some light on who is intellectually competent, intellectually honest, and who has an agenda.
I'm not the biggest fan of mob rule, but in this situation the college football world needs to witness the committee discussions and voice pleasures/displeasure with the process.

I'd like a roll call:

Step up and be counted if you think TCU is the 2nd best cfb team in America.

You can reply to this post with a simple TCU2

This just shows how political rankings are. Is there anyone who actually thinks TCU finished the season as #2?

Their regular season involved having the biggest horseshoe up their arse since 2013 Auburn. They lost their conference championship game. The horseshoe returned against Michigan and they still barely held on. Then lost by 58 in the championship game.

Got beat by k state... Didn't drop. For throttled by UGA.. finished 2nd.

Wtf?? I'd put Ohio State ahead of TCU. Maybe even Michigan ahead of them...

We got beat by two TDs on the road by the number one team and were dropped 4 spots. TCU got beat by 58 points and didn't drop.

No one adjusted their final rankings because tOSU has lost their last 2 games and Michigan got beat by TCU. That leaves Alabama and Tennessee who didn't get invited but finished with a much better case. There's not a non-controversial way to re-rank Alabama, Tennessee, UM and tOSU so voters said frick it.

The final polls that came out remind me very much of the days where champs were decided 2/3rds through the season and bowls had no weight at all. Put simply, no one paid attention to the final 4 games of the season.

Final rankings should've been along the lines of: 1. UGA 2. tOSU/TENN/BAMA 3. MICH 4. TCU. And sorting out tOSU, TENN, BAMA and Michigan is a bit of nightmare because you can make a strong case for putting each of those teams in various orders.

My ballot would've been.
1. UGA
2. OSU (they made the committees cut while Tennessee and Alabama got left out)
3. Tennessee (head to head and better wins than BAMA)
4. BAMA
5. Michigan
15. TCU

TCU beat the #2 team in the country.
Then lost to the #1 team in the country.

If you dont like it, argue for the BCS to come back. Because this is how 4 and 12 team playoffs work.

This isn't rocket science

Do you really think TCU is the 2nd best team in the country?

No one believes that. TCU is a top 15 team at best - that's it - but they were gifted a path to the playoffs. The problem is sorting out how to rank tOSU, Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama and TCU. Michigan and tOSU played no one all season and were also gifted a path (those two took the Clemson route to the playoffs) but tOSU's performance against UGA should count for something while also noting they've lost their last 2 games. In contrast, Alabama and Tennessee had dominant wins against top opponents.

It's much easier to just stick TCU at 2 and pay no attention to the last 3-4 games of the season. The sad truth is that even the pre-BCS system that pitted top teams against one another and often ignored teams that played against weak competition was better than what was put together this year.

The playoff committee went into complete denial regarding the difference between conferences and schedules alongside a good portion of the country and this was the result.

Doesn't matter when you incorporate a playoff.

This is the entire purpose of a playoff (playoff trumps the regular season in importance and any given saturday can change what we already know) .

Get used to it. We are going from 4 to 12.
