That was the end of the Johnny Majors era, where Tennessee let a coach go that had won 27 games in his last 3 seasons (and this was back when they only played 11 regular season games).

That was also the end of the Jack Crowe era, where Arkansas won 12 games in the last 3 seasons.

Who got the better gig that year? Phillip Fulmer or Danny Ford?

That's a fair point, if you limit it to the final few years of the Majors era at Tennessee. Arkansas had the better record during the entirety of the Majors era, though.

If you went back 30 years, then you'd have to give the edge to Arkansas during the Battle and Dickey eras.

Dickey and Majors were assistants under Broyles at Arkansas, so I'll give Arkansas the nod.

I'm beginning to think that Tennessee is cursed. Bama, do you have anything to do with that?

Fulmer sold his and Tennessee’s soul to the devil when he tried to bring Bama down back in 2000. Old Lucifer just called in the note back around 2008.

All of these people talking about Tennessee are living in the past. They still perceive Tenn as a top tier job. However, in reality they are not. The last 2 coaching hires say it all. Tenn is about to go 3 for 3.

Actually I do.. Fact of the matter is that the Arkansas job really has no prestige and Bert was stupid for taking it IMO. your best coach was Bobby Petrino who was owned by Saban and we all know how that worked for you guys..

Other than having a much smaller stadium, I don't see many differences

All we keep hearing is how Tennessee will have its pick of a top tier coach, but shouldn't Arkansas be considered as the same tier job?

I think you could make the argument.

There is no argument really.

-Tennessee hired Kiffin and he left them for another job. That has never happened at Arkansas. No coach has ever left the University of Arkansas for another job.

-The last two hires Tennessee has made have been because other coaches turned them down. No coaches have turned Arkansas down.

-Arkansas has landed, on paper, two top notch coaching hires in its last two coaching searches. Arkansas lured Petrino away from the NFL and lured Bert away from a program he won 3 Big Ten titles at.

No kidding.

Tennessee hasn't even won 10 games in a season in a decade and have had Lane Kiffin leave them for another job, hired a 3rd tier coach from Louisiana Tech, and settled for Butch Jones in their last hire.

Arkansas is clearly the better landing spot going on the last 10 years and each schools proven ability to land coaches.

How much prestige did Oregon or Clemson have?

Who hasn't been owned by Saban? Point is invalid.

A&M is below Arkansas once you take away all the eye candy. how many times you see a shitty Arky team hosting a top 10 conference foe and not sell out? I cant remember ever while its a regular thing with A&M. A&M doesnt belong in the SEC at all.

Yeah. So are we.

There is a difference between "sleeping giant" and "chronic underachiever". Jackie and early-RC were a long time ago. Tee Martin was not that much more recent

no A&M has never done shite in the SEC. only thing giant about A&M is their over inflated ego. 12th man my arse. when you cant sell out against a top 10 you might want to stop claiming that joke.

Yes, all those things have happened at UT and it is still the better job times a million.

And Lyle Jones had a better record than Bielema, but congrats on landing him and those 10 win seasons from a decade ago!

Within the last decade they have lost a coach to another job. This situation in fact, proves you're wrong.

Bielema's record would have looked a lot better playing Kentucky and Vandy every year too

I'm a Razorback fan, but Arkansas is a dumpster fire right now. Bielema has done damage that may not be corrected over 10 years.

Lol there it is.

Tennessee hasn't even beaten those teams on a consistent basis and is still a better job than Arkansas. IWABH, Arkansas is maybe a top 25 job, probably more around 30.
