Bear Bryant could be the Pete Rose of
football. In the 1934 Rose Bowl, Alabama
upset a heavily-favored Stanford. Bryant would

$5-dollar-bet on themselves as an underdog,
making about $1 each---or $20 & 64-cents in today's
money.

no kidding?? My grandfather was on that Alabama team and I have never heard that story...thank you for sharing

He is #46, back row

Bear is #12, back row

Don Hutson, #37, back row

I've always been surprised by the amount of times we've played Maryland. 18 games and we are 12-6, last match up in 2001. Not sure if there is some sort of history there, but its one of those series that kind of stands out when you look at historical head to head match ups.

OU has traditionally had problems with USC and Notre Dame.

We are 2-5 against USC and 2-8 against Notre Dame. Both seem to catch us in down years more often than not. Obviously the national title blowout against USC was an exception.

One thing about Notre Dame is that they bracketed our 47 game win streak. We did beat them 40-0 in the middle of the streak.

Georgia is 0-3 against Holy Cross. Saban was probably the coach back then.

That 'Bama pic. #42 and #29 look like Pat O'Brien trying to play Knute Rockne as a college kid.

As of a week ago I'd say that's still accurate.

Arkansas has winning records against Ole Miss and Texas A&M, but a losing record against Missouri.

Go figure.

Vandy is 21-21-1 vs Auburn all time
19-7-1 through 1955, when Vanderbilt had more overall wins than any other SEC team (374 total, ahead of #2 Bama with 357).

2-14 from 1956-2021, when they had the fewest overall wins of any P5 conference team (235), behind Indiana with 272. The 2nd worst SEC team over that stretch is Mississippi State. who won 85 more games than the "Dores.

Fun Fact: despite both schools being charter members of the SEC, and being separated by a mere 300 miles driving distance, AU and Vandy did not meet on the gridiron from 1956 to 1978, a span of 22 seasons.

We are 0-1 against the Virginia Military Institute. The shut us out 0-14 back in 1913.

Ole Miss played VMI in 1996 and won 31-7. So after 83 years the series was evened.

It’d be dumb as frick to take the current state of Kansas football and apply it to their football history of over a decade.

Sure. That makes sense if KU's football history wasn't littered with garbage for more than a century. They haven't had 3 consecutive winning seasons since 1960-1962. The only prolonged stretch of good football they've had was the early 1990s-1920 or so.

They're about 130 games below .500. They make our history look illustrious.

Or slow. You won't pass us up before Saban retires, that's for sure. After that it's anyone's game.

Alabama has never beaten the Carlisle Indian School.

110 years ago Carlisle Indian School was coached by Pop Warner and they won the national championship. Their Quarterback/Safety/Punter/Kicker/Returner was Jim Thorpe.

I love bringing up that Music City Bowl.
"FSU has more bowl wins than UF!"
"Y'all lost to UK though."
"That game didn't matter!"

Of all the SEC teams, Texas has their worst records against South Carolina and Vanderbilt, the latter of which Texas hasn't played since the late 1930s I believe.

West Virginia is also the only team in the Big 12 with a head-to-head advantage over the longhorns which is also surprising.
