I think that’s the # needed to void the buyout penalty.

No they aren’t.

You probably wanted UVA in that “ yes list” too.

Nope. Duke and UNC are the only ACC schools that would provide any value to the SEC. If we MUST take a Virginia school, I'd want V Tech.

Tigernet is where the scrapped barrel Clempson fans live. That get their inside information from Bubba the gas station attendant.

Hard to believe that Virginia isn't involved. They've had a lot of recent success in basketball and baseball (lacrosse too, for lower level sports). That said, they're a perfect fit for the Big Ten.

Wholeheartedly agree on North Carolina, but Duke???

Uhh...no thanks.

Does USC/UCLA strike you as a geographic or cultural fit for the B1G? A historically Midwest conference. The only similarities they have with the B1G is they're AAU. This is about $$$.

Geographic, frick no.

Culturally, surprisingly yes. Migrating New Englanders aside, PAC and B1G teams play each other before other conferences (drop obvious cross state rivalries)

The B1G has no presence in New England. They don't care much about college football up there. Rutgers and Maryland maybe sort of almost touch the fringe of New England. The original B1G members are about as far from being New Englanders as they are from being west coast.

The guy in the linked video says they have to get to 8 to void the GOR.

This is true.

The pac schools have the same ball-shrinkage issues that the big10 has.

They wanted desperately to avoid:
-Aconference champ game
- A game that meant more than the rose bowl
-A playoff.

Their elitism is focused on how to slow the whole thing down so they can have a chance to leap onto the merry go round without getting flung off.

They are too proud of their blue bloods when the southern blue bloods forced the change that you see today.

I thought the SEC looked at Virginia Tech years ago and there was legislative pressure for Virginia Tech and Virginia to remain in the same conference. Am I remembering that right, or am I making stuff up in my old age?

Probably not wrong on any of that.

-But we saw OU leave Okst.
-We saw aTm AD publicly saythere was a gentlemen’s deal to keep them the only Sec school in Texas.

It appears that uva really doesn’t want the sec while vt would be happy with it. It’s an underwhelming rivalry to begin with.

One is a football program while the other wants something else.

These gentlemen’s agreements are just agreements….nothing binding.

It’s still a big brand that bring basketball. Clemson in the SEC would be a South Carolina 2.0. Who needs that?

Yes, this thread is Germans. But I don't think two total threads makes Mizzou "so obsessed" You can't wade through college football boards right now without getting snagged by ACC collapse rumors. I will concede that I think Mizzou fans are more alert to realignment news than the average SEC fan since our conference of 100 years was the subject of constant realignment rumors for several years before effectively collapsing. That's still fresh in most of our minds and it's still weird to me that we will never play Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas State, and the Oklahoma schools as our conference schedule again.

I get this as an Arkansas fan. Because for a decade or so I think we knew the SWC was on a death watch. Too many teams on probation. Too small a market. Frank Broyles certainly knew the end was, to borrow a line, "very fricking nigh."

We reached out to the Big 8 and the SEC and the SEC was more than happy to listen. I do wonder what would have happened had Arkansas gone to the Big 8. It might have helped keep the conference HQ in Kansas City, and offset the power bloc of the Texas teams.

Regardless, I think Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, and to a lesser extent A&M are more sensitive to rumors of realignment because we've been there. All of us have had to think about... "what if this game of musical chairs ends with us in a glorified version of the Sunbelt?"

I'll get downvoted for this, but if ND resists joining the B1G for any reason and see joining the ACC or maintaining independence as not viable then why not add them?

The SEC would add ND no questions asked but if they ever join a conference it won’t be the SEC unless there is a massive change in what the B10 can pay schools. Adding USC makes the B10 even more attractive to ND. Nearly all their historic rivals are in the B10 now.

How is that? Miami wasn’t even in the same conference as FSU until 2004. And with Miami being a small private school with most of its alumni living outside of Florida, the Florida legislature is not going to block a FSU move to the SEC over Miami being left out.
