I don't really think last night was a case of bama not wanting to be there... they scored first afterall. OU got outstanding QB play and bama turned the ball over.

What's the SEC's record in Sugar Bowls in the BCS era?
I'm standing by.
I think the original poster is referencing the time since a standalone NCG was added, not the entire BCS era.

The SEC regular season stage is bigger, no doubt
2nd, 3rd, and 4th place are usually in the Title hunt
But still, you've gotta play hard
I can't get upset at the players when I'm not even excited bout the game myself. It's only normal when expectations are so high all year, and Bama is their worst enemy with all that. You can say all the right things, but you can't fake passion heading into a game. Oklahoma played lights out and deserves total credit for doing so. They came to play and brought the wood last night. SEC teams can get away with this against overmatched opponents, but do this against programs that have playmakers. You'll get you're tail handed to you if you disrespect your opponent. Bama deserved all they got for not respecting Oklahoma and some humble-pie will do the youth good moving forward.
How many times do we gotta see this play out
To realize this isn't an anomaly though

Agreed. Crank up the latest Daniel Moore painting.

LSU won in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2007 in title game.
I don't think we mind it.

as long as the SEC winner goes to the playoffs and the loser goes here, it will almost be an afterthought. proof we are so spoiled

This was my only thought during the game last night. Our players needed a wake up call. I would have preferred that wake up call come during the game but during the offseason will be fine too.

It's a valid point but its also crazy. The Sugar Bowl is awesome. The only problem I have with it is they don't have it on New Year's Day at night anymore. Nothing like getting absolutely blitzed on Bourbon Street on NYE and then having enough time to sleep in and re-energize before walking over to the game.
I do think some SEC schools have taken it for granted and its a shame. It's still the signature SEC bowl for the old timers.

Seems like only Bama and Florida don't want to be there.
Bama and UF have won 5 of the past 7 NC's.
So yes, it's not always meaningful when they play in the Sugar bowl.
Great point by you

Oh and we actually show up for our sugar bowls and don't choke to vastly inferior opponents. Thanks for making the SEC look like a bunch of pretenders

You, getting upset on a national stage is really showing us

I don't know about that. LSU sure came to play against Notre Dame. Highly motivated.

a lot of truth to that.....SEC teams don't show up in Sugar Bowls.....except if it's for the NC
Funny...LSU has played in 2 non-NC Sugars in the BCS era and kicked the shite out of its opponent both times (Illinois & ND).

Better for the players and coaches to be mad and upset after losing than happy about it. Glad they're not used to it like some.

Last time LSU played in the actual Sugar Bowl for the MNC (and not the separate BCSNCG), they beat Oklahoma.
The 2011 and 2007 games were not the Sugar Bowl FYI.
But, nice melt
