Why doesn't Ark recruit Texarkana? Right on the border and they produce like seven or eight 4 and 5 star players every year.

No they don't

Pine Bluff was a powerhouse under Marion Glover back in the 90s.

Pine Bluff has been in a significant population loss for decades.

The problem is the public school system sucks with poorly coached and developed teams. Arkansas is way behind many states who get every ounce of talent from these high schools.

Nutt went 18-16 with McFadden and other first round draft picks on both sides of the ball.

He was going to get fired in 2008. AD Frank Broyles was headed for retirement and he said publicly that was going to be a problem for him.

So he looked for jobs after the 2006 season and before the start of the 2007 season, he had an agreement with Ole Miss that he would be the next head coach.

So at 10 seasons in, if you can't win an SEC with that amount of talent then you will never will.

It also didn't help that his personality stepped on the toes of many hog fans and it helped create some drama in his last two years.

I was neutral on that subject. But Dale was a goober and a half. I don't know if he could have maintained it in the social media age.

In reality, Jeff Long fricked us when he fired Bobby.

Pittman would've been fired if Lashlee had been willing to listen. But he wasn't, so...

Arkansas has a long and illustrious history of hiring the wrong coach when better were available, at that time.

Coaches interested at one point but not hired: Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Butch Davis, Gus Malzahn

Coaches hired instead: Ken Hatfield, Jack Crowe, Danny Ford, Houston Nutt, Bret Bielema

The only notable exception to this self inflicted pattern is Bobby Petrino.

Passing on the right coach for non football reasons is in Arkansas’ DNA. Before everyone tears down the should have list remember it’s at that time. Yes Butch and Gus kind of flamed out, but they had strong runs in the years after Arkansas could have hired them.

I’m not sure who else was interested in the job for Morris and Pittman so no commentary.

Arkansas can compete at a strong level, but they just get in their own way.

They've already checked into Gus' buyout at UCF. Waiting a year saves them a bundle on both - Pittman and Gus

Hiring Gus would be a bigger nail in the program's coffin than what keeping Pittman is.

Well, first of all: it happened

The NCAA put Oklahoma State on probation that goes back to 1979 when Johnson was the coach. They also put Oklahoma on severe probation in 1989, a year Switzer left Oklahoma.

Ken Hatfield was a much safer hire and not near as shady as the other two.

Arkansas should have fired Nutt after 2005 and hired Butch Davis. But all that talent on 2006 and 2007 was wasted.

Arkansas could easily hire a Jeff Traylor type and improve the results of the program.

Pittman is an atrocious in-game coach and will be a lame duck next year.

They may get in their own way, but no, Arkansas cannot compete at a strong level. Not in this newer version of the SEC.

Since Texas A&M and Missouri joined the SEC in 2012, only Vanderbilt has a worse SEC record. Arkansas is 24-73 for a .247 winning % in SEC play since 2012. A&M and Missouri joining took away their ability to get kids in those states that wanted to play in the SEC.

With Oklahoma & Texas joining next year, Arkansas literally has no recruiting base to be able to compete in this league.

Can they play teams tough and pull the occasional upset? Sure. But, they are not going to be able to be able to compete at a strong level no matter who the coach is with their extremely weak recruiting base.
