I don't know how the aTm & Mizzou fans will take this just coming in from stat-land-central or the Big-12. It might be interesting.

The OP is right, in that in the end the only stat that matters is the W or the L. However, stats are for fans, a point of reference to speculate and argue, not just in CFB but in all sports.

My main problem is how some misuse stats. National stats are fairly meaningless, since there's such a wide disparity in competition across the country-even within conferences. There's all kinds of context that needs to go into to understanding stats, and some of it just comes down to speculation on the part of the user. And while stats can sometimes be generally predictive, they are far from being as absolutely predictive as some like to argue them.

But there is no stat for just finding a way to win, although I'm sure if we thought hard enough about it we could invent one.

Easy. We will deflect and continue.

For example, did you know that Manziel, who set an SEC record for total offense last season with 5,116 yards, now leads the SEC this year in passing yards per game (331), passing efficiency (186.9) and total offense per game (392.4)?

I've directed that same statement many times to all the cheerleading, buttock smooching, mediocrity accepting, sunshine pumping losers over on the Tiger Rant.

Personally I love stats. Stats do not lie. But they are based on past performance. Baseball uses stats probably more than any other sport. If a player is batting .350 life time than most likely they will be in the hall of fame. However each time that player comes up to bat you can throw every stat away. All that matters is that at bat in that moment. Stats are an indicator of where you've been and what will likely happen. No guarantees.

The op has made stat threads. It's laughable that there are more bama stat threads than all
Other teams combined on te sec rant.
