This is kind of bull shite. I'll say this...if we get someone who does better, and I hope we do, we'll have gotten pretty lucky.
Absolutely.
Fist off, Thanks coach. Not just for the wins, but for how you ran the program, and took care of the kids who came through.
Second off, it'll be a great thing if we get someone better. Don't know that we will though. Some just can't appreciate the job that GP did here. Hope we don't have to go through several failed or mediocre HCs for them to gain the respect for the job GP did here.

Well, I'm not ready to compare him to Manning or luck But Blaine Gabbert was a top 10 pick. Something tells me this kid will be better than Gabbert. Just can't see him at MU as a redshirt senior. As a true senior? Maybe. But I can't believe he'd be here 5 years. Just my opinion.

Everyone assumes Lock will want to leave after 2017, yet nobody mentions attending Missouri was the fulfillment of a life-long dream. Then he remained loyal when some of the glamour boy coaches tried to poach him. I could easily see him remaining loyal to his teammates and goal of winning an SEC championship at Mizzou
Well, the longest I can see him staying is through the 2018 season. Just don't see the kid turning his back on the NFL $$$ more than once.
re: Mizzou fans, how's the QB situation?

Being a realist isn't sunshine pumping. But like GP, you do what you do. Yeah the defense has played a role the last few years, but you jump to a bunch of conclusions about something (because you're a hater)-it wouldn't bother me if Lock took over this year. I'm just realistic enough to know it isn't happening-Mauk is a team leader. Mauk isn't a great quarterback, but he's a gamer and a player. But I agree, it's fairly obvious who the best QB prospect on the roster is though.

You're only likely to have one year as a starter either way. But I think he has a better shot at unseating Mauk next year this way than if he redshirted. Again, you're going to get the most out of his time here without the redshirt. This way you get 3 years of on field production rather than only two with a redshirt. The absolute longest the kid will be on the roster is 4 years. Pretty much a no brainer, like I said.
Nice to have a starter quality backup. Even if he only gets one year as the starter either way, you've gotten two backup years also. Instead of one, with one year not getting anything on the field from him. Last I looked 2>1.

Lock's redshirt

Seemed to be a controversial thing to the color commentator yesterday. Doesn't appear to be so too much in the fanbase though. Seems like a no brainer-by not redshirting him we are going to get more, not less, time from him. If he's here past three years I'll eat my digital shorts. Why waste one on a redshirt?
In addition, if you redshirted him, you are almost certainly only going to get one year as a starter with him. Without it, it's very possible he takes over next year and you get two.
GP did the absolute right thing.

So they played the kid after all an pulled the redshirt?
Despite what some others are saying, it was the logical thing to do. If Blaine Gabbert can be a top 10 pick after three years at MU, then this kid will be a lottery pick. He will be here three years, 4 max. Why waste one on a redshirt when he's the best backup QB option on the squad? You going to get as much, if not more, time from the kid on the field by NOT redshirting him. You redshirt him, then he backs up next year and likely starts for one and is gone. Play him this year and get him some experience (and standing with his team mates) and then compete next year for the #1 job, and you might get two years as a starter from him. Mauk is a team leader who's won a lot of games already at MU. Can't just kick him to the curb like some seem to think they should. Pinkel does not do that to his team leaders, for good reason.
re: What's your take on the game?
Posted by tobythetiger on 9/6/15 at 12:40 pm
My take is this was the typical first game under Pinkel. Nothing but basic, vanilla, predictable stuff. Seems I have to point this out every year after the first game against a cupcake.
Lots and lots and lots of athleticism and potential everywhere on this team, more so than any roster I can remember under GP. This will be a dangerous team by the end of the year, and if they avoid a midseason lull they can compete for/win the east again.
DlineZou plays on.

I don't think you can say this is not serious. For now it would appear to be a rogue employee (or employees) who didn't like Luhnow, but however high up the food chain this goes, heads need to roll. We aren't the Patriots. Own it and do the right things. That too is part of the Cardinal Way.

According to Dave Matter, all the freshman recruits are in. Jucos Frazier and Howell aren't listed in the university student database yet.

This pretty well explains why MU is no longer a member of the Big 12.
BTW, congrats on your great season this year-after all, Texas's down years are better than MU's good years, I hear. Ya'll must have kicked arse and taken names the last couple of years. Did you? I must admit I wasn't paying very much attention.
re: Time to be overly optimistic.

Thing is, we don't know for certain if all or any of those kids will be back. Curiously, one of the guys it seemed certain would transfer (Isabel) looks to be staying. Honestly I think that's one kid to be optimistic about. Having a PG who can score (provided he always remembers he's a PG) is a big weapon to have. He needs to make better decisions, which should come with experience. Teams won't be able to back off him, if he plays to his potential.

Or maybe there aren't any bigs left they think are worth taking that they are or can get involved with, and they'd rather take a 4* SG than a stiff. Not saying that's the case, and you could be right.
Me, if you can't sign a useful big with the last (known) scholarship available, then pocket it for next year when we only have one senior and (theoretically) one scholarship to give. Of course, if there's multiple transfers left to announce, then they could still do that and still sign another kid (or two).

I did say 'perhaps', and that was based on only losing a couple of kids. But go ahead and pretend I predicted a big turn around, dude.
'Progress' does not mean a winning record-it can (and in the context in which I was speaking) progression by the players individually (not unreasonable to expect), more consistent competitiveness, and some play of the floor that actually appeared to have a 'system' behind it.

The two year transfer rule is an SEC rule.
And I could see KA restricting where JW3 could go-for example, any team KA felt might have been contacting him through third parties (his dad) would be candidates to be a the no go' list. I for certain would eliminate Arkansas as an option, just because SMA.

Hard thing to swallow, but true.
ETA: We could lose 1-2 kids and still (perhaps?) show improvement next year. But the worse case scenario of a mass exodus would seem to be looming.

Well, most of the 'optimism' was based on 'there's nowhere to go but up'. But now 'there's nowhere to go but up' is starting to look like an unreasonable expectation...

I think the most likely outcome is we end up with no franchise at all.

Sounds great. Trade the second worst franchise of the last decade for the worst franchise of the last decade or more. Brilliant!
The NFL has already determined Kroanke will move to LA. Now they're trying to provide cover for that with their 'market evaluation' (some Rams season ticket holders haven't received the questionnaire) and moving up the timetable for a decision on allowing a team/teams to move to LA. The first can be spun whatever way they want to say a market can't support a franchise...and the second makes the steep climb to get all the ducks in a row for the new STL and Carson CA stadiums even steeper. Personally, I don't give a crap anymore if we have a franchise in STL-this league is a bunch of money grubbing asshats with no concern for fans except for how they can cash in on them.
