Mullen did it his first season

I stand corrected, he was the FIRST UF QB to lose to FSU.

Wrong again, senior Tom Shannon started that game and played the majority of it at QB.

They also wore gold against Florida in 98.

I also thought Florida made us wear Purple many years before that.

LSU wore only purple at home under Curley.

I can see how being forced to wear those fruity purple jerseys would be bad for morale.

Vanderbilt made us wear purples once
I think it was gold vs. Vanderbilt in 1997. Unless LSU wore purple another time against them.

After the '97 game LSU fans rushed the field. Don't recall the specific incident but apparently an LSU fan insulted a special needs UF ball boy (or something like that).
Afterwards, Spurrier elected to wear whites vs LSU in the Swamp.
DiNardo then decided to wear this hideous eyesore gold jerseys in '98.
Regarding other seasons, rules were changed after '82 so that the home team had to wear dark. Dinardo lobbied the NCAA to allow us to wear white in '95.
So from '83 through '94 we wore purple jerseys at home. Saban began a tradition of wearing purple jerseys 1 game a year in honor of those teams (and Karl Dunbar, DL coach then who played in the mid-80s).

Spurrier did this again when he coached at South Carolina, and also Miss State put LSU in purples in games played in 2007 and 2009. Sylvester Croom coached them 2007 and Dan Mullen in 2009; it's not clear why Miss St chose to wear white uniforms for those games.

Yea LSU wore purple jerseys in road games quite a few times in the 1960s and 1970s, and the Tigers lost a few of these games. That's why they got a reputation for being "unlucky" and thus coaches would sometimes elect to put their teams in white for home games when they played LSU--it became a sort of psychological warfare.
Certain teams made a habit of this: Florida, Kentucky, Miami (Florida), Georgia Tech and Miss St. are the ones that come to mind. Also I think Tulane may have tried this a couple times to change their luck v the Tigers in the 1960s.
