a loss to LSU
And look at the irony of that last Spurrier loss!
In true Spurrier fashion, as coach of South Carolina, he put us in purples! That was in fact the only time LSU wore purples at home for an SEC game after 1994.

Dinardo lost 12 home games in 5 seasons as LSU coach
Dinardo did "start winning" at home, though, when he came. He went 5-1 in 1995 at home, the one loss being to national runner-up Florida. he lost one game at home in 1996, to top 10 Alabama. Hallman was 2-4 at home in 1994, 3-3 at home in 1993 and 1-4 at home in 1992. DInardo juist finished horribly, but he won some really big home games from 1995-1997. Hallman didn't win a big home game his entire career at LSU. His only big win period was on the road at Alabama in 1993.

The Ol' Ball Coach would have killed it at LSU !

Kiffin should take note
So it's very possible both Kiffin and Miss. State's Leach could go full Spurrier this season, and put LSU in purples for their home games vs us. Ca plane pour moi--we're still gonna smoke'em.

LSU would’ve never gotten Saban because Spurrier would’ve had a ton of success in Baton Rouge.
And neither would have Alabama.
I've accepted the established concensus that we are witnessing the greatest college football coach today in his prime, but in 1999, If Saban doesn't step in the corporate jet to fly from Lansing to Baton Rouge, we are having none of these conversations.

I also thought Florida made us wear Purple many years before that.
1972 game in Gainesville. LSU wore purple. Final score was a 3-3 tie.
Thank you.
I wish we could get pics.
I remember like yesterday seeing a pic in the Times Picayune.
But memory changes over time! :)

Yea LSU wore purple jerseys in road games quite a few times in the 1960s and 1970s, and the Tigers lost a few of these games. That's why they got a reputation for being "unlucky" and thus coaches would sometimes elect to put their teams in white for home games when they played LSU--it became a sort of psychological warfare.
Certain teams made a habit of this: Florida, Kentucky, Miami (Florida), Georgia Tech and Miss St. are the ones that come to mind. Also I think Tulane may have tried this a couple times to change their luck v the Tigers in the 1960s.
Good stuff.
Thank you.
I definitely remember Florida making us wear purple when we went to Gainsville

That was all before Dinardo successfully campaigned to bring back the home whites. LSU wore only purple at home under Curley.
And what's the big freakin deal about wearing whites at home anyway? Pretty ghey if you think about it.

Because it looks nicer than their purple jerseys?

I think their purple jerseys are badass.
Now Florida in all Orange?
What's that about?

Florida wore uniforms similar to LSU back then
This is Jerry Stoval wearing a purple jersey in 1962 against Ga Tech. Ga Tech also has a tradition of wearing white at home

Here's LSU wearing gold jerseys against Florida in 1959 and 1957
