Why would they hire this guy ? Shula

He was a decent assistant in the league. I don't see the problem.

Because we're collecting offspring of legendary coaches. Nothing else has worked. May as well try this.

It's interesting to me that he's had about 11 stops at various franchises.
Even counting Alabama and South Carolina, he's averaged about 3 years per stop.
Just don't see how you could do that over your entire career. I'm sure the money is good, but that would drive me crazy.

Doesn’t there come a point when it’s no longer “falling”, but more like “digging”?

Could be worse. We could've hired him as HC.

I wonder if he still fears the thumb. Probably has some PTSD.

We had an 0-21 stretch before. It'll never get lower than that.

Say what you want about Shula the coach but as a QB he beat Ohio State, USC and Notre Dame and then married a bad bitch

As an A&M fan, I feel that you're uniquely qualified to shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

Going 26-23 during the worst period of Alabama football that most fans have ever seen - the man doesn’t get enough credit. He took the job when no one else wanted it and outside of a couple of games - his teams were usually competitive and fought hard. He couldn’t control the sanctions and restrictions. Fran left because of them.

Mike Shula is pretty well respected in the coaching community as an assistant.

I wanna say .... I'm pretty sure ..... there's an old Beamer/Shula connection there dating way back to late 79s, 1980 in Charleston. I heard some talk about it the other night but I forget how it went as I was a bit inebriated.
Don Shula via Nick Buoniconti who's Son played at the Citadel when Frank was there.
And Mike had more than a few years in this area during his stint with The Panthers. I believe Shari and he kept their home just up the road in Concord in addition to their place in South Florida.
I'm glad to see Shula on the staff. I just hope Shane somehow manages to build a cohesive staff all pulling in the same direction. His staffs have been a bit mercenary thus far.

Oh, what could have been if he didn't try to run it up against Florida in 2005.
He was the OC for the 15-1 Panthers team in 2015. I'd guess a lot of people don't remember that. He did well to design an offense that got the most out of Cam that year.
