Alabama has signed 41 draft-eligible five-stars since 2008. Those players were picked in the first round of the NFL Draft at a 48.8% clip. The other 285 five-stars who didn’t sign with Alabama? They were selected in the first round at an 18.3% rate. You read that correctly: A five-star who picks Alabama in the Saban era is more than doubly likely on average to be a first-round pick compared to college football as a whole.

It doesn’t stop there. Alabama five-stars have been drafted 75.6% of the time since 2008. Every other draft-eligible five-star in that window was picked at a 63.1% rate.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but in that time frame, Saban has not only had more opportunity to sign blue chip players than any other coach, but he's also pretty good at it.

Just an FYI.

Saban is a great evaluator and usually only recruits 5 stars who are actually deserving of that ranking and leaves the overrated guys for other programs.

1. Saban is a good recruiter of talent

2. Saban is a good developer of talent

3. Alabama football has more cameras on it than any other school, leading to more TV exposure and more opportunities for NFL scouts to see Alabama's players than other schools', leading to a higher draft rate for blue chip prospects at the University of Alabama

Dabo can pretend all he wants that his program is more important than the 5 star players in it, but Saban actually does it.

When you get to pick, it means you get to pick the best out of the five stars too.

Your "GOAT season" includes eeking out a 5 point win over Daddy Bama. Our GOAT season includes a thorough and complete annihilation of LSU by 38 points.

But how would that affect the stark difference in the %s of success that he/Alabama has?

Not all 5 stars are created equal. For example a 5 star that is likely too small to make it in the NFL is not normally a Bama target. Could still be a good to great college player but NFL scouts looking for a bit more. Those guys aren’t usually worthy of first round picks.

Our GOAT season includes a thorough and complete annihilation of covid-season depleted LSU with 60 scholarship players and the worst college football defense in recorded history by 38 points.

But congrats for the covid championship, I guess.

So Alabama doesn't have to pay (cheat) players to come to Alabama, right?

More exposure to NFL scouts, more consistent good development regardless of coaching turnover.

At this point, NFL scouts know what they're getting from a Saban player. They're disciplined, well trained, and driven.

It's a great track record, for sure.

And it would be even better if they'd fire the guy in charge of recruiting/signing kickers.

According to the article you cite, since Ed Orgeron arrived at LSU, he has a 100% rate of five stars being drafted, higher than Saban’s rate. Impressive.
