Tennessee is doing well, no doubt about it, but how much if their high ranking is due to all the early commits and the big dogs like Bama, LSU, Georgia etc not eating yet? They are currently number 2 on rivals with 21 commitments, 8 four star and 13 three star. The class that compares closest to that is Kentucky’s last year with exactly 8 four stars, 13 three stars and 1 Five star thrown in on top! That class ended up ranked 21st in the country.

There average is getting higher, they will be a top 7 class in the end.

BTW, these threads are getting rediclulous, almost like there's some insecurity around here.

Oh and rivals sucks

Probably a bit of both, they are recruiting at a high level and the other schools are being more conservative without on campus evaluations through camps. It’s a gamble on Tennessee’s end but when you want to be a relevant program again it’s probably worth the risk.

No there not, teams are offering just as much as usual. I disagree

Teams are not offering at the rate which they would had they been able to hold on campus camps.

Also I could see this hurting Tennessee as well once those recruits venture out and start taking other official visits. If Tennessee is 7-5 or worse come December, are players going to be as eager to jump on board?

The difference is the lack of updated player rankings and finding Diamonds in the rough. The big time recruits are still committing and getting offers

VOLS have received commitments from 2 5*s, 7 4*s, the #3 JUCO player in America, and beat out Clemson for the other 3* all within the last two weeks.

That sure sounds like Kentucky football krootin, solid comparison

Kentucky & Tennessee final 2020 classes:

Tennessee's 2021 class up to this point with 6 spots left + the several kids that will be asked to look around. This class won't finish 23rd like UK did last year. This ends up being another Top 5-10 class much to this boards delight.

Tennessee finished top 10 last year with a much slower start. This class is only going to get better.

Pruitt is a good recruiter. They will finish with a class in the top 10, I’d guess around 8th.

The part people are missing is that this isn’t some insane jump from where they already were. Using the 247 composite, they averaged a #13 class over the 4 classes prior to the 2019 season. 5 spots better is a good improvement, but it’s not like they had a BYU talent level last year. Butch’s classes weren’t ever terrible.

It's a great class. Will end great as well.

However, it's very odd. Tennessee has been average to bad for the last 20 years, and suddenly a first time HC with the personality of a potato is competing for the top class in the country? This on the heels of another mediocre season that featured a bowl game vs. Indiana and a loss to Georgia Southern (or whatever 1AA school that was)?

I know TN feels like their "big 6" status from a previous era of CFB warrants this, but it smells more like Ole Miss during the Freeze years to me. I guess it's a good time to do it though, since the NCAA stands ready to throw the rule books out the window.

Hopefully Arkansas follows this model very quickly and starts buying recruits. It's really the only way we could ever become relevant again.

Everybody that's having major recruiting success is cheating to some extent. The Ole Miss comparison is laughable though.

Tennessee has some of the best facilities in the country to sell, a giant fanbase, a rich history & what's turning into one of the nicer & more entertaining cities in the conference. The only thing missing since Fulmer was let go was a coach who could tie it all together.

Kids aren't going to places like Auburn Alabama because it's a thriving area with a booming downtown. Knox County blows the Auburn area out of the water yet they've recruited better than us because AU has been more consistent & recruits have watched 2 coaches in recent history take them to a National Championship and win meaningful games. Whereas past UT brass had been incompetent and made 3 terrible hires in consecutive order prior to Pruitt. UT is a sleeping giant that's been waiting on the right coach since 2009. If Pruitt ends up being halfway successful the University will recruit itself.

I for one welcome a talented Tennessee team. While the last 13 years have been fun, I'm sick of people shitting on our rivalry with the Vols. There were some intense games between our two schools back in the 90s and 00s and quite a few occurred with both teams ranked in the Top 15. It'd be nice to see that again.

1. Who uses rivals
2. We already have a better class in May than the one you finished the year with last year

UT history is ancient history. Recruits today don’t care that UT was good before they were born
