However, it's very odd. Tennessee has been average to bad for the last 20 years, and suddenly a first time HC with the personality of a potato is competing for the top class in the country? This on the heels of another mediocre season that featured a bowl game vs. Indiana and a loss to Georgia Southern (or whatever 1AA school that was)?

Big Balls Germ has always been known as an excellent recruiter. Maybe, just maybe, he's selling these kids on an up-and-coming program and talent development? I mean, shite, he took a bunch of Botch slop this year to a 7-5 record after what was probably the worst start for any major program in CFB history.

Compare that to Hugh Sneeze who was known as a kiddie diddler of the women's varsity basketball team at Briarcrest prior to OM.

Dude, 1aa? It Doesn't exist anymore, Fcs does and Georgia state wasn't Fcs, you're thinking group of 5.

BTW, Tenn always has pretty good recruiting classes, much better then ole miss.

OK? Do you expect them to have those 5 stars to decommit?

Everybody that's having major recruiting success is cheating to some extent. The Ole Miss comparison is laughable though.

Tennessee has some of the best facilities in the country to sell, a giant fanbase, a rich history & what's turning into one of the nicer & more entertaining cities in the conference. The only thing missing since Fulmer was let go was a coach who could tie it all together.

ZERO of the kids Tennessee is recruiting right now have seen TN be anything more than mediocre in their lifetime.

I know - I did that on purpose.

Also, I know. But there is a huge leap from top 15 to top 3. Recruiting "pretty good" vs. elite recruiting is what has me scratching my head.

I’m sure somebody else on TD has already said what I’m about to say but what Pruitt is doing on the recruiting trail is the same thing Saban did with Bama’s 2008 class. Jeremy is using the “lets build something together” strategy along with guaranteed early playing time and it’s working. He’s using the “you can go to Bama, LSU, UGA, AU or UF where they’ve had recent success or we can build success here in Knoxville from scratch”. It’s worked in the past and it’s working now.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused by it as well.

Currenly, according to 247, by class average, UT is ranked 7th...in the SEC just above Ole Miss. Sitting at 21 players committed, with an average player rating of 89.70, UT hasn't even eclipsed their avg from 2020.

So I see this as a early start for them, but not one that's better.

Go out and hire an elite recruiter and defensive mind and you too might be able to crawl out of the bottom of the conference in recruiting forum user Hogfan13

13 three stars. That is quite a bit of early takes.
