How do you explain so many people believing that the outcome of some games are predetermine? It especially seems to be a wide spread belief in regards to the NFL. Do all these people have schizophrenia?
There are just too many inexplicably bad calls, or obvious missed calls, that seem to consistently benefit the team with the larger TV market to chalk it up to coincidence. But the idea of a league influencing results is a totally different subject than corrupt refs. Interestingly, in the NBA scandal it came out that league officials had instructed officiating crews on how to call certain playoff games (let em play vs. blow the whistle on any contact). This could obviously favor one team over another based upon style of play.
In SEC games, you constantly hear about the league’s officiating office putting an emphasis on certain rules. There is no doubt that league offices do give referees marching orders. The motivation behind this is the only thing up for debate.
But back to corrupt officials/referees being paid off, I absolutely believe it happens. I don’t know how widespread it is, but I bet it happens more than we would want to believe.
Not necessarily clinically paranoid schizophrenic, but closer to being on the spectrum or being somewhere on the spectrum. It's basically the way that different brain chemicals interact with each other and communicate with each other.

Conspiracy theorists have a pretty good record lately.

I agree. QANON and all of its satanic child blood drinkers and JFK rising from the ashes really knocked it out of the park. How that Storm work out for you?

I think if Donaghy had tried to pull that off today, he would have gotten nailed pretty quickly. Too many high definition camera/angels and too many analytical tools to see when a ref goes against their tendencies, especially in big games where there is a lot of money being bet. Throw in some AI that may start analyzing calls and there will be very few ways to hide putting your finger on the scale.

Seems like with instant replay it'd be tough to do, right? But I guess there are penalties (e.g. a BS holding call or whatever) that can negate points.
So yeah the more I think about it it's hard to imagine that the wise guys haven't gotten to a few refs.

1. many times it's not about what IS called...it's about what Isn't.
(look at the punt block that should have been called back, certainly made sure the cocks we're getting inside the spread)
2. Don't go all the way back to 2007....Look at Bama's baseball coach betting against his own team to lose to LSU a couple years ago...think that was the only thing he was doing that was shady? Most likely not...

Its pretty naive to think it has never happened. Its also probably not very common.
Some of the roughing the passer calls this past weekend are strangely familiar to fans of the NFL though. The NFL is straight up entertainment and QBs are the leading men. Protecting the leading man is a mainstay in pulp entertainment. CFB was different....most QBs are barely able to take a snap, if they got their head taken off no one used to would have noticed for the most part....but there seems to be a move to adapt the NFL take on roughing the passer. When a lousy QB who is not remotely close to the face of the franchise is given the Tom Brady protection (or Michale Jordan for NBA fans) CFB is beyond redemption. Pro sports are already nearly as fake as pro wrestling. It seems we are seeing a transition in CFB.

I dunno, I would have said the refs had money on LSU, but then they blew an easy call for a catch that got overturned on appeal. That crew was just flat horrible and blew calls both ways after I went back and watched the whole thing. Worst officiating I ever saw.
I think they just don’t know the rules anywhere near as well as they should. If you watch Josh Pate’s podcast from yesterday he goes off on officiating in general. I couldn’t believe calls that were made, especially on roughing the passer.

I think Week 1 Big 12 refs absolutely let USC hold on multiple TD's

I think they all passively or indirectly have Vegas on their mind.
You will always look more competent by telling your crew to only flag what they know they saw. Let the teams play by only calling the obvious, make them establish themselves down or oobs
Sit on your flag until the players make you flag them.

I listened to a podcast with this guy telling his story. It was wild.

The broadcast company that keeps many programs afloat via TV deals, covers news, breaks stories, and covers games also owns and operates a sportsbook on which they set lines and take bets on the very games they cover.
That is the very definition of "conflict of interest".

Arkansas at Florida, 2009. No one can watch those calls and think there wasn’t/isn’t some kind of nefarious shite afoot. A bad call here and there will happen. But that game was absolutely set up

I still remember that game for the bad officiating that was going on. A friend and I watched it at an airport terminal waiting on a flight. That game is the poster display for crooked officiating. To my knowledge the SEC never offered up any explanation for what happened on the field.

If true and you know it's true, then why watch and bitch about it constantly?
