Barring a miracle against TAMU I don't see Proot retained especially with the recent rumors about him being fine with going back to being DC at Alabama, and Freeze waiting in the wings.

Johnny Majors was the HC at UT, while Phil was his OC. Majors had heart surgery during the season, and Phil took over as the interim HC while Majors was in the hospital. Phil (having played at UT, and had strong ties with the PTB there) worked behind the scenes to shore up his power while Majors was away. UT went 3-0 while Phil was the interim HC, and the powers that be decided to cut Majors loose and keep Phil as the HC. This was after Majors has gone 11-1, 9-2-2, & 9-3 the previous 3 years before.

No, he had gone 11-1 in 1989. This happened in 1992.

I don’t know why bammers get so incensed at this. Why do you care so much?

Edit: nice edit

This whole board acts like Johnny Majors was their Grandpa and it is SUPER personal to them. They in fact no the insides and outs of the stories better than any Tennessee fan ive ever spoken to about it. This fish just keeps getting bigger. Im waiting for the day the board suggests that Phil put something in his food to trigger the need for the heart surgery.

No one is dumb enough to suggest that Fulmer would ever give food away.

Wasn’t Johnny like a drunk uncle? In the latter part of his career?

Yeah, I didn't think that sounded right, so I went back and looked it up. But they did win 2 SEC titles, well won 1 outright and split 1, in those final 3 years.

Because it was kind of a crappy thing for Phil and the PTB at UT to do to a guy that had spent the 1st half of the season in the hospital having heart surgery.

Yes, but we got rid of him and phil ran amuck on the SEC (minus Florida) for the next decade and everyone hates him for it and praises Johnny Majors and see's no flaws. Similar to how they would have been calling us Rapist enablers had we hired Schiano but since we didnt he's the best damn coach that we would have ever had despite the fact that noone else seems to have wanted him.

The guy won 2 SEC titles in 2 of his last 3 years there. I don't know anything about him being a drunk, but it seems he was able to win football games if he was one.

I ‘member back when Tennessee and Auburn folks laughed at Bama and it’s revolving door of HCs.

Auburn has had 3 coaches in 20 years. UT is a completely different animal.

If the Haslams are paying Pruitt’s buyout then Fulmer is definitely gone.
