So, this is the NCAA message today. . .

Basically the NCAA told this to the Cam and Cecil Newtons of the country today:
You can shop your kid around all you want and when the school that spurned your greed reports you, make sure you say the kid didn't know. Oh, and then go hide the money you got from the school where your kid ended up.
Should be fun in recruiting these next few years. What stories these occurrences will make! Oh my!!

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the NCAA set a precedent today. Albert Means TOOK money from Bama and was still allowed to transfer to Memphis.

This isn't new. The only reason this seems new, is because this is the biggest (and i think only) case where solicitation is proven to have happened, but as of now no money was ever changed hands. They are saying that they can't rule a player ineligible for somebody just asking for money without their knowledge. This really isn't new.

Seems like the SEC bylaws say something else, not that I expect anything fro SEC.....

Albert Means didn't TAKE anything. The money supposedly went into Lynn Lang's bank account but nobody was ever shown the evidence. Means always denied he ever knew he was being shopped just like Cam. Unlike Cam though, Means was forced to play outside of the SEC due to the spirit of the bylaws now SEC chairman Slive ignores.
The NCAA set a precedent because it opens a Pandora's Box for people to pimp their kids and claim the whores are ignorant of the whole thing.

Go back, read about the Albert Means thing -- specifically who gave and received money, and about the circumstances surrounding Albert's continued career at Memphis.
EDIT: Or read Arty's post. He sums it up pretty well.

I know nothing about that situation BUT I have read where people cited the NCAA saying that the player is ineligible [b]FOR THAT CONFERENCE[/b] meaning go anywhere BUT the SEC.

means, none, alabama however had one of their boosters, logan young, pay for means. that's why alabama got probation and means got nothing. more interesting is when lsu was put on probation in bball for paying lester earl. earl transferred to kansas, and lsu got probation for 2 years

Albert Means basically got fricked. That's the thing a lot of Auburn fans who cite him fail to look at. He didn't get paid. His family didn't get paid. He didn't benefit at all. The only thing he got was the opportunity to play at the school of his choice taken from him.
