Apparently Saban has done something right with his philosophy as he's won 4 national titles compared to Spurrier's 1. Also...Saban has an undefeated season on his resume. Spurrier has no such thing.

I'm sure spurrier could win a natty at Bama.

“I haven’t heard anybody say that really, but if you wanted to, you can find faults with anybody if they don’t win them all. How many SECs has (Saban) won there in eight years? He’s won two. He’s won three nationals, but he’s only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don’t know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could.”

All OBC is saying is, Spurrier @ SC >>>>>> Saban @ Bama.

Many people ITT can't grasp the fact the HBC and Saban can have a normal conversation talking about coaching that isn't considered a troll fest. Nothing wrong with what was said IMO.

That's horseshite.
Be that the case, then so did Emory Ballard or any number of people. Offenses and defenses evolve over time, each trying to gain an edge.

Of course not; but then OBC puts it out there for all of us to read and make our own judgement on.

SC fans - "LOL. OBC is a much more fun coach!"
UA fans - "You realize OBC actually hasn't WON the SEC in his time there, right? Maybe he's not an expert on the subject."

And so forth.

Seems to me thats the difference btw defensive minded & offensive minded coaches.

You would think so and I would have to compare stats over the years, but seems like SC has actually had better defenses than offenses during Spurrier's tenure.

Let's look at the years Saban didn't win the conference while at Bama:
2007 - Saban's first year. Had to purge the program. The eventual NCs won the conference.
2008 - lost to one of the best teams and one of the best players of this era. Lost in the 4th qtr with a team not nearly as talented. The eventual NCs won the conference.
2010 - was in the race until the "Camback". The eventual NCs won the conference.
2011 - lost a heart breaker at home to the eventual SEC Champ. Did however exact revenge for that loss and won the NC.
2013 - loss a heart breaker on the "Kick 6". Loss to NC game participant.

The point is that Saban has been coaching Bama during an unprecedented run of success in the SEC. He has been in the thick of the race in November every year since 2007. His way works for him.

So you are telling me that the SEC had the speed rushers before Spurrier's fun-n-gun? You are telling me that the SEC had sideline to sideline LB's before Spurrier's fun-n-gun? D's were set up to be run stoppers. Spurrier forced D's to get faster, because you either had speed or you were chasing it all day long.

Here's a kick in the nuts.......Spurrier has a more impressive resume. He won at places nobody had consistently won before. What about saban? He has a stellar resume....but he has won at programs who already had a rich tradition before he arrived.

Who the hell keeps baiting Stevo with Saban questions? Seriously, they haven't coached against each other in years.

saban has "a couple" SEC titles at alabama over the last 8 years... yet he would've been able to do the same at USCe?

Based on what? His run in the 90s inside a conference which pretty much became a three-team league for the majority of the decade? He didn't even have the best team in Florida throughout the majority of his tenure there. Sometimes he didn't even have the second best team in Florida. Had Florida been playing in the ACC or the Big East during that time, Spurrier would have only won one or two conference titles at the maximum.

And the SEC hasn't been a 3 team league since 07?

08 - UF, Bama, UGA
09 - UF, Bama, LSU
10 - Auburn, Bama, LSU
11 - Bama, LSU, UGA
12 - Bama, UGA, UF, LSU, A&M, South Carolina (pretty much the only year the SEC has had 5-6 legit contenders in its run)
13 - Bama, Auburn, Mizzou, South Carolina

And don't forget: The ACC in the 1990s was TERRIBLE except for FSU. THAT was a one team league.

And the Big East? LOL. VA Tech? Syracuse? Miami was inconsistent until 2000. UF would've been fine.

UF bashed one of Syracuse's best teams with Donavon McNabb in the 99 Orange Bowl (and 98 was one of the "weaker" UF teams of the 90s).
