Official Announcement
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas will discontinue its men’s and women’s tennis programs at the conclusion of the 2026 spring season.
“After considerable reflection and thoughtful discussion, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue our men’s and women’s tennis programs,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said. “We understand the disappointment and emotion this news will bring to many. The landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, requiring us to make challenging choices as we balance competitive opportunities, resources and the long-term sustainability of our department. Ultimately, we concluded that we are unable to provide the level of support necessary for our tennis programs to consistently compete in the SEC and nationally at the standard our student-athletes, coaches, alumni and supporters deserve. We appreciate the efforts of Coach Udwadia and Coach Clary, along with all of our current and former student-athletes.”

Yep, states like Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana are not rich enough to be able to maintain at this pace.

If you can’t beat em, quit
On a serious note NIL is sucking up all extra dollars for major sports at some schools. Meaning some schools can and are paying tennis players but Arky and others can’t. So the better players are following the money (don’t blame them) and the system is breaking.
I also saw Iowa State is quitting women's gymnastics. Ironically the OU coach K.J. Kindler came from ISU in 2006.
Don’t like where this is all headed.

More ramifications of a feckless, clueless, useless group of old men called the NCAA.
They fricked this whole thing up pretty good.

Only a few schools have the money to be good or elite in the three major sports.

This is embarrassing and ridiculous.

Smart move. This will save hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of dollars that Arkansas can otherwise divert to football NIL.

Arkansas spent almost 3 million on tennis.
It generated about $3k in revenue.
It’s not rocket surgery. Arkansas is just the first to do this…certainly not going to be the last.

is Tennis that expensive to make that much of a difference
I'm not sure why LSU is funding Beach Volleyball
it's a waste of time and resources especially when you are not gonna ever be better than the California programs
