This isn't a difficult conversation
It's selling future cash flows in order to cover current/future liabilities. The issue is those future deficits are only going to grow by whatever haircut the university is taking on this exchange. The whole option to buy back those revenues is redundant as the university will still be operating at a deficit, they won't have the capital to exercise it

Even if this is true, somehow I feel like we will take a wiser path than, "We give you $100m now, you give us 10% of your future earnings from now until the end of time."

This sort of ownership likely isn't what you want. They are focused on the bottom line. It is likely from a purely financial standpoint a team can make more money by being very good and filling the seats, but not going all in to win. Think Liberty Media and the Braves versus The Dodgers ownership. The Braves needed pitching. They signed a guy that is a number 4 starter at best. The Dodgers signed a frontline guy just so other teams didn't get him. Liberty Media likely realizes that the financials between bowing out in the first or second round aren't that different versus winning it all and it may be better not to blow up the payroll.

Maybe, but if I told you 3 years ago that Alabama would give a raise/extension to a head coach that was averaging 4 losses a year, you would have also felt like Alabama would be wiser than that, I'm sure.

He went 10-2 in his second year, lost the SEC Championship Game, won a CFP road game and lost to the first team in history to go 16-0.

Basically, finishing inside the top 10 equates to a raise/extension at Alabama now, even if you did get blown out in 2 of your final 3 games.
It's not necessarily a shot at Alabama, just proof that everything has changed and craziness abounds.
Sometime very soon, this will just be semipro football, players will be university employees, and a lot of traditions and other good things will go by the wayside in pursuit of the almighty dollar.

Honestly I’d just take a breather from the thread. If everyone were honest no one but Texas and Aggie can sustain the current model for another decade. Just like when they laughed at LSU’s jersey patches and following suit, their athletic departments will announce some spruced up version of PE of a deal with PE. Hell Kentucky is already an LLC the cats will go first with their legal status.

Most here are just whistling past the graveyard. It's almost a perfect facsimile of the patch thread a year ago and now everyone is looking to secure a patch sponsor ASAP.

I think it’s interesting that Jackie has framed the concept to make us an NIL machine but the rant is framing it as is merely not being able to service debts. I’m going to go with the guy who made them all sound retarded last fall
