So, if players are getting paid now...

Why can't programs put them on a 2, 3, or 4 year contract? No transferring, or it's a breach of contract.
I know this seems like NFL-lite, but wouldn't it somewhat tame this wild portal?
Crazy seeing guys that could lead teams like Kansas and Oklahoma to the playoffs bolt for a top 5 team with more money to spend. Not to mention players transferring to rival programs.

All I can say is...
I have the utmost respect for the loyal players who stick with one team from high school to graduation.

They do. The collectives and schools choose not to sue the players though because it would scare off other players from signing there if they knew they couldn’t transfer out should something happen where they want to

The programs themselves aren't the ones paying, its the boosters.

LOVE what you've done here!

Everyone one would need to do that and that just isn’t happening. You always have programs like UTk and Auburn that have to cheat to win. So it doesn’t work if everyone isn’t bought in.

Ugh, good point.
NCAA can't even reign in the most threatening factor (portal) to CFB, what a sad excuse for a governing body.
If the conferences can make a better governing body, bring it on.

It’ll get sorted out soon. Too many beaks not getting wet in the current “college” football set up. Once about 50 teams break off and have a commissioner with teeth some of this will end. But to answer your question, if Kirby starts making kids seem sign in for three years but Tenn usc Florida auburn bama and Clem fsu only make you commit for one uga would lose a lot of guys. Plus it possibly also binds bust players to schools.

They need to be employees first.
It's coming. And then you'll see players not even be students. And then in all likelihood CFB will collapse.

Probably where it’s headed
Nil will be based on number of years you stay and play

I thought schollies were a yearly basis? did that change? i fully expect the football players to unionize within the next 5 to 10

Some schools have started giving out longer ones IIRC.
Players unionizing would be the worst thing for them.

The settlement already appears to be in jeopardy
If that deal falls through and some plaintiffs want to hold out for more it’s gonna get ugly

Bc on the other hand if the player’s a bust then the school is stuck w them and can’t tell them to go kick rocks

If we could just a cap on amount a company can pay a kid, everything would go back to normal but kids would still have money. Instead it’s an absolute clown show.

From the little bit I've gathered, most of these NIL deals are backloaded. Kind of like the base salary in NFL rookie deals.

Normal as funneling money through a children’s hospital, sure.
Unless you have strict enforcement of the rules for all schools, then there’s no incentive to go back to the way things were.
Caps only work if you have a draft and a regulated trading system.

Why can't fans understand that the schools aren't paying players NIL money and don't dictate terms of NIL contracts?

Contracts keeping players tied to a college will happen when they begin to pay players shares of their revenue.
