So Bama went from Rick Pitino, Billy Donovan, and Thad Matta to . . .

Nate Oats.

Not saying he's bad, but wow what an underwhelming hire after all of the talk of getting a big dog.

That's what happens when the AD runs a search where the fans do what fans do - throw out a bunch of big names and have no clue what's going on.

It doesn't mean we aren't excited:

Hiring coaches is a crap shoot, regardless of the person...Auburn should know that better than most.

This reads like it was written by someone who's been a lifelong basketball fan for the last two seasons.

We didn't want a guy who admittedly coaches players to lie to the NCAA.

I mean, we're not Auburn over here.

Hiring mid majors coaches is. See Anthony Grant and Tony Barbee. Both had a little NCAA tournament success before getting hired to Bama/Auburn.

Proven guys like Donovan, Pitino, Matta are near locks to succeed.

I think it's a better hire than Matta. He really started slipping the last 4 years or so at OSU. It's probably because of health, that's why he looks 25 years older than he is, but he might not ever be healthy again.

Odd how LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee fans keep giving us shite over Oats’ hire but our fanbase is totally okay with it.

Scared?

Bama would've immediately fallen in love with whoever was hired. See Anthony Grant and Avery Johnson. Those two were hyped up to legendary levels.

Wrong, many were uneasy at first glance but after his PC and further evaluation into who he is as a coach we are now happy with him 100%.

Idk if another mid major would have been taken so well outside of Houston’s coach.

We are fed up with these big name coaches not doing shite but this guy sounds like he actually knows how to get shite done.

It's what fans do, right?

You get excited, get behind any new coach that your school brings into the fold. The fans give the new Coach a shot to prove himself, and if shite turns sour like it did with Avery, the fans want a change.

Some fans demand a change and will not tolerate an Administration that over pays for a mediocre Coach. A coach that can't develop the talent he brought in, a coach that didn't teach the fundamentals and didn't have it in him to adjust his scheme to fit his players.

Bama fans refuse to put their asses in the seats of Coleman in the post season opener and that spoke volumes of how we felt about the status quo withe AJ.

He isn't a big name coach. He's a mid major like Anthony Grant. Bama fans fall in love with whatever new guy is hired as the basketball coach because the previous guy was always a pile of trash.

Big names coaches have won Championships/Deep NCAA tourney runs in major conferences.

What bama did was the equivalent of hiring a UAB or Memphis level coach in football. Could turn out well, we'll see.

Don't mind Tusky Lucy...

She's just excited to have another fappable home run hire.

Agreed, it's just funny because all of the talk was about finally getting a big name.

We'll see how it all pans out. But one thing is for certain, the Bama Administration will not string along a high priced Head Coach that produces a consistent mediocre product. You pay top 10-15 salary, you damn well expect to see a decent team take the court/field and produce a ranked team at the end of the season.
