a guy who is 22 years old and played 15 seconds in an nfl camp and made a few thousand dollars can't?
oh but he became pro..... well if the ncaa didn't shaft him out of year of playing maybe he wouldn't have

Most of these guys go to the Pros because they are misled by those around them, thinking they are headed to the Pros and are going to receive a huge paycheck. When they don't go in the first round of the draft and end up as some practice squad fodder being a tackle dummy for the big money guys, they start regretting their decisions and start crying about giving up their college opportunity. It used to be simple that if you ever went Pro, or played in a sports tournament that paid over a certain amount of money, you lost your college eligibility. This really should not be that complicated, but thanks to an organization that cannot equally enforce the stupid rules they write, you have this mess.

Not that I love the whole situation, but this isn't new for a player to be granted a 6th year of eligibility.
Now obviously, them going the Judge route after his waiver was denied is some bullshite, not trying to defend that, but just pointing out that a player getting a 6th year due to a medical redshirt is not something new and isn't the same as a player declaring for the NFL, forgoing the remainder of their college eligibility and trying to come back.
Auburn had a player back in 2010 that was granted a 6th year due to this. Difference being we actually had the documentation to back it up, unlike Chambliss.
