This is bullshite. Football has always been about innovation and trying to get a decent advantage over teams that are athletically superior to you.

Hell, there is very little parity in college football because about 20 schools suck up all of the good talent. Then, some teams start innovating and beating those teams once in a blue moon and now people want a rule change.

The HUNH teams never broke any rules. They just played a brand of football that big slow juggernaut guys had trouble stopping every once in a while.

Bama, YGM.

Should have never went to the 40 second clock. It was stupid to begin with. Should have just kept it at 25 seconds and started the clock when the ball was marked ready for play. If anything, they should get rid of this turd.

Not saying they did. But THEY took advantage of the play clock rule change in 2008. It has to be adjusted.

The problem was, refs were missing penalties because they were hurrying too much and were out of position. Refs were hurrying up getting the ball in play for HUNH teams. Wasn't right. Supposedly they fixed this problem.

This is spot on. I heard the NCAA director of officials speak to this very thing on SiriusXM 91.

I hate to comment about the coaches and players screaming at the refs to hurry up and get the ball set. That's bullshite IMO. No players should be yelling at the refs for any reason, period.

I think the refs want to try to form a consistant pace of play. Regardless of what teams are playing, HUNH or traditional offenses, it shouldn't affect the way the refs move or transition during the game.

They should strive to be methodical in their processes on the field and not allow Saban/Malzhan/Sumlin/Freeze/Muschamp screaming their heads off from the sidelines determine the speed the ref does his job.

they need to put a rule in that if you scream at an official to hurry up (ie not do their job properly) you get 1 warning, next time you are ejected, player, coach, or whomever

Actually, what should happen is that when a coach screams at an official to hurry up, the whole crew walks at an extremely leisurely pace between plays for the rest of the series.

40 second clock works fine in the nfl. the mistake was adopting it without adopting the rest of the procedures they developed to handle the implications of the rule change

Rogers Redding made a mistake by going public with this issue. If it looks like the refs are trying to slow things down this year, he will be without a job and officals will be under a stronger microscope. Before it is over, the max age of an Official will be under 35 years old.

I mentioned this past week that since the NFL is ruining their league it won't be long until college follows suit. Ugh

As long as it's corrected it won't be a huge issue. Officials were passing the ball to another official from the sideline to spot a ball, helping HUNH teams. That was wrong. Just get it corrected and lets play ball.

What if it looks like refs are running at breakneck speed to get the ball set so that the players and sideline coaches will stop screaming and yelling at them to hurry up? Will he keep his job?

Wasn't blaming Saban at all. Referenced him only as a coach of a program that can recruit the talent needed to just line up and play.

I imagine the officials will come to a consensus in an attempt to regulate/set the pace of play for every game regardless of who is screaming like a fool at them to hurry up or who is screaming like a fool at them to slow it down. Establishing a reasonable pace of play and not allowing either unit to dictate the speed of a game should be the ultimate goal. Run the damn pace the same every game, get a set of procedures for getting the ball to the official the same way for every game. And don't succumb to a screaming/yelling coach or player trying to rush you to do your job.
