Why do some people expect football coaches to be Psychologists and Sociologists? They're PE majors.

As long as it's corrected it won't be a huge issue. Officials were passing the ball to another official from the sideline to spot a ball, helping HUNH teams. That was wrong. Just get it corrected and lets play ball.
Nick Saban says he won't mess with Lane Kiffin's play-calling rhythm
Posted by NickSabanRules on 8/26/14 at 2:45 pm

“My thing has always been that, as a play-caller, you have to let the guy have the rhythm of what he’s trying to do,” Saban said. “I had rather make my suggestions between series, not while we have the ball, and maybe say, ‘Look, they’re doing a lot of this. We thought they’d do that. Let’s make sure we get back to that.’ More of that type of thing than while we’re going on a series say, ‘Do this or do that.’
“I might say, 'The next time we get the ball in a good field position, let’s take a shot on these guys. They’re really playing us close outside.’ I might make those kinds of recommendations rather than try to get in the way of a signal-caller while he’s trying to call the game and have a rhythm about how he calls the game.
“I know that’s putting a lot of trust in another person, but that’s been the most effective way through the years for me as a head coach. Because I think you can really mess a guy up if you’re always questioning what he does or why did we call that or are you sure that’s what we want to do on third down. Then the guy’s like …”

The HUNH teams never broke any rules
Not saying they did. But THEY took advantage of the play clock rule change in 2008. It has to be adjusted.

The refs shouldn't dictate anything. If the offense wants to start they should be able to start.
The refs should use a methodical pace. Do NOT hurry up for HUNH teams. Make sure all the officials are in place to make the correct calls, then signal the ball in play.

I think it's going to be a very close game.
re: CBS sports: Blake Sims favorite to start Saturday

Not surprising. Coker will take over before the UF game. Sim's is supposedly improved. But what I've seen of his play, he just doesn't have "it".

they need to put a rule in that if you scream at an official to hurry up (ie not do their job properly) you get 1 warning, next time you are ejected, player, coach, or whomever
Gus would be gone, week 1.

The SEC is experimenting with an extra official for one game a week. Not sure if they'll do the AU / Arky game.

So will this be implemented this year?
Supposedly. I have a friend whose father is an SEC Official, and he says that has been the biggest issue during the off season.

The problem was, refs were missing penalties because they were hurrying too much and were out of position. Refs were hurrying up getting the ball in play for HUNH teams. Wasn't right. Supposedly they fixed this problem.
Slow down! Refs want to hit pause on up-tempo play

"From the officiating standpoint, we kind of got caught up in this thing and allowed ourselves to sort of get overwhelmed by it," NCAA coordinator of officials Rogers Redding said. "Too much rushing around, hurrying and trying to be speedy about getting the ball in play and it sort of put the defense at a disadvantage."
Now, the officials are taking the pace back.
"It's not revolutionary, but it sort of calls attention to the need for the officials not to make the ball ready for play until all the officials are in position," said Redding, a referee in the SEC from 1994-2004. "That may mean cleaning up the sideline before, but having the umpire sort of crisply jog but don't sprint, hustle but don't hurry in getting the ball ready for play."

Bama doesn't lose National Title games. Another team in that State does, though. :nana:
